It was closed!!!!!

I'm very glad I don't have shares in that! It seems to be plagued with problems, I hadn't realised how many!

But it looks spectacular as you drive in from the airport.

I have to admit I really like Melbourne it has a lot of life and fun going on. I like Sydney as well but I think Melbourne has more life. The one thing that annoyed me was the trams! Since I didn't have one of the new fangled tickets I couldn't use the trams!

Melbourne is the best city in Australia. Weather, street life, crime rate, cafés, pubs bars & clubs.

I can't believe it was closed, it was warm, but not windy and not that overcast. It's a big disappointment for sure, I'm not a fan on where it is, the docklands and I lived there isn't great, the views of the CBD and bay are great, but the wheel would have to be 10x higher to see it.

Well I will put in a vote for Adelaide! Perth is very nice as well, Kings Park is beautiful. Darwin is fantastic in the right season the night food markets are awesome. And I love Hobart as well, I have had the best take away sea food in the Harbour there.

I'm not keen on Brisbane and the Gold coast is .......enough said.

I was expecting a bigger wheel after seeing the London eye I have to admit.

To be honest in Australia we are spoiled for choice!

Grew up in Hobart loved it but as I got older, found it very redneckish. Been back a few times and love it as a holiday spot, could never live there.

Love WA & Adelaide is fun, but it reminds me so much of Ballarat.

Cruel

Coldest night I've ever had was Ballarat in a tent!

I agree Tassie is great to visit but not sure about living there.

Again the traffic in Melbourne and in Sydney put me off as a place to live - and the property prices.

Just a question, apartment living seems big in Melbourne and Sydney? On the drive in from the airport there are 'fields' of apartment blocks, is this becoming common as a way to have a property? Do people self own or rent?

Traffic is horrendous in Sydney and full of drunks on weekends.

Much prefer the peace and quite of the snowy mts where I grew up.
Very relaxing but....

Me? I own nice a new unit in the east near the beaches, (I hear Jessica busily packing her bags). Had a house at one point.
Prices are worse than the traffic. I know how much mine is now worth. Unbelievable!

I am not! (Jumping up and down on bag to close it) I am not even listening to you living in the East near the beaches. (giggles)

By the way, Cindy sounds great since Melbourne! What doctor do you have to see for a script of that? (Latch finally closes on luggage) Is it in pill form or patch? (Total airhead now)

Was I talking out loud again?  ;D

It was unreal the hostess did the safety stuff and I swear said a paramedic descends if oxygen is cut off.

I was having my second consult from an independent psych for GRS. I now have three psychs who reckon I'm female. And one woman who knows it.

Yeah! It's called passing out. *giggle* ;D

Knowing my luck the plane would de-pressurize while I was in the bin above a German Shepherd!  ;D Poor dog! ::)

Funny you say that, my best friend lived in Canada for 2 years with a guy, she came back for a wedding that was in Ballarat, to this day she says Ballarat is the coldest place on earth.

The traffic in Melbourne is bad, if you don't know what you're doing. The north to the north west is great and easy, everything else is bad. The trick is know your back streets. Don't go the the south east, east or true west (Geelong) unless you have to, and leave early.

I had about $300k put aside for me, my dad died in a work place death about 3 months before I was born, him & mum had broken up a the time. I bought a place when the Docklands were being built & rented it out for 5 years while living at home. After mum got sick of me (love that woman to death) I moved into the apartment for a few years, I loved it, so close to the city, I used my car once a week.

After a few years I wanted pets, so sold the apartment for twice what I paid and bought a 3 bedroom house near the airport.

When I first came out, mum was offered a job in Melbourne, so she sold up and bought in Fitzroy north, she had her house valued a few months ago, a 2 bedroom, tiny backyard, street parking, falling apart, valued at $1.8 million, she paid $400k. I guess location, location, location!
Thats what I don't understand, the smaller the place, the smaller the backyard, the worst off its walls, the more you get for it here. Her house is about 10 minutes walk to the CBD, that was great when I was going out 6 nights a week, the area is very safe and she has more pubs in within 3km than any other part of the world.

Ms Grace

In Canada they have pretty much everything central heated don't they? Probably even the slipper cupboard and the toilet seat! In Australia we think we're too tough for that and even though it doesn't get anywhere near as cold as in some parts of the world we don't really have the same super degree of indoors heating to combat the winter chills so it usually seems colder than it really is. I had a girlfriend from England who always moaned about the Sydney winters.

As for Sydney real estate, it's bonkers. I have a nice but older style two bedroom unit near Parramatta that cost quarter of a mil just over eight years ago. I would have preferred something closer to the city but anything in that price range was a shoe box. Glad I bought out here though, transport is good, I'm in a nice, quietish spot with lots of trees, close to most essential shopping, etc.

They're building masses of 25 story apartment blocks in around the Parra CBD...with a 90 story one planned for about 2020. Crazy! Prices on those new modern units start at $325K for a studio/bedsit!
