Because it was the last day of school today, we got let out after lunch, and I used the extra time to go and book myself an appointment with my doctor for 10:50 tomorrow. I know I said somewhere that I was going to see my school counsellor (who's never actually there ) but she'll probably tell me to go to the doctor and ask about therapists anyway. So yeah... wish me luck?

Thanks everyone, I literally just got back home.
He treated the whole thing like he heard what I was saying every day or something. That threw me a little because I was so paranoid he was going to totally freak out on me... but he didn't. Unfortunately though, he said that he's not allowed to reffer people under 16 to a "specialist unit" without parental consent, so now I have two choices. I can either wait until I turn 16 in May, or I can tell my parents sooner than that... the thing is though, they only split up in October and whenever my Mum comes over now they end up arguing about something stupid, and my Dad is also in a lot of finacial trouble right now, ie. Mum used to pay for half the rent, the council tax etc, so they both have a lot of stress already... I told all this to the Doctor but he said that there's nothing he can do without parental consent.

Complicated situations? Yeah, I'm officially an expert...

I'm  really glad that your first appointment went so well.  But it is unfortunate for you being in your present family situation.  How far off are you from your 16th Birthday?  If it's not so far away maybe you would better off waiting until then to come out to your parents.  It would seem that doing it now would only add fuel to the fire of their breakup as it does not seem to have been an amicable one.  Remember there is no big rush, as there may be many other issues that would require your parents consent until you reach legal age.

Congratulations Steven. That first step is a hard one, isn't it? Sounds like in your case waiting till May would be a good idea. It's only 5 months (I know, an eternity when you're young and waiting for something). If you can get referred to a specialist and have some therapy sessions, that will likely give you some tools with which to deal with your parents.

Glad things went well with the Doc. I have to agree with the others and having gone through a divorce at my level and with my parents now is a time where they are probably looking for things to throw at each other. I am sure that you don't want to arm them so it would be best to wait until I think.

Obviously the choice is yours and five months probably seems a long time but you need to have a focus on your problem and not what is going on with your parents so waiting may be best.
