Hey all, question for you. (:

So I was going through the requirements for an audition thing for a cirque camp, and one of them, the first one actually, was "excellent health." And this got me thinking, am I in excellent health? I mean technically there's nothing "wrong" with me, at least to other peoples' eyes. On the other hand, there is this term "gender dysphoria" that a lot of trans people identify with, including myself. And sometimes being transsexual can feel like a disability. So maybe I'm not?

Another thought, I'm pre-op, pre-hrt, pre-electrolysis, pre-everything, except for being openly transsexual and from a social standpoint, pretty much fully transitioned. Since I don't take pills or anything, don't have any surgeries, or don't need to dilate or anything, am I considered to have "excellent health?" or does my gender dysphoria count me as mentally unhealthy?

Consider a different scenario. I'll probably be getting this requirement for "excellent health" in a lot of future jobs. Picture a transwomen who has already "fully transitioned;" hormones, SRS, the whole shebang. Since they'd still have to take hormones, does that write them out of the "excellent health" group? Or since they didn't really have a physical ailment or injury before, and don't have one now, and really aren't unhealthy, can they still be considered to have "excellent health?"

I know there are some bigoted people out there who consider the mere act of identifying as trans to be "unhealthy," but from a more rational point of view, I want to know what you all think.

Do you think transsexualism hinders ones qualification for excellent health?
Also, is there a difference, in your eyes, in the healthiness of a "pre-transition" trans person and a "post-transition" person? I'm curious to here your thoughts on the matter. (:

Also this post Is not intended to enforce opinions or hurt anyones feelings. :P

I realize that's more than one question. Oh well. ^_^

For how could I ever ask someone to love me as a woman for my body, if I can't even love my body as a woman for myself?

If they consider anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADD, BPD or any kind of addiction "not in excellent health", then I don't think they'd have too many people left to choose from.

Well I have to inject testosterone, but I don't feel that really affects my health status. If someone has very well managed type 1 diabetes and nothing else it would be fair to say they are in "excellent health" provided the working conditions allowed them to maintain that health (like having safe and hygienic areas to monitor blood sugar and give insulin). I don't see why it would be very different for a trans person. You can still have "excellent health, with specifiers."

For a cirque camp they probably just want to make sure you aren't going to have a heart attack on them or something (or if you do they can say it was your fault for falsely stating that you had excellent health). If you still aren't sure calling them up and asking might be the only way to go.

Good luck with your audition if you chose to take it :)

Thanks! ^_^ I'm definitely going to, I'm just frustrated because I don't know what to mark in the
"sex M/F" Box on the questionaire. /:

Your DL is the only thing that will give it away, use that.

Gender is what you identify as, at least here. I'd mark F because that is what you are.

Well that's the thing. It says "sex" and not "gender." Plus I have to also show them a video of myself performing in skin tight clothing, and I don't really look very girly without the right clothes on. And I don't know of they're going to check with legal stuff or what knot either.
