Kia Ora,

So you're thinking about transitioning...Well are you made of the "right" stuff ?

What does it take to transition ? (and I don't just mean finance wise)

What's in your mental arsenal ?

Are you harmed with self confidence ? (stocked up on self esteem)

With 'self acceptance?

With a "Teflon Mind" ? (one that lets criticism slide off it-like water off a duck's back )

With staying power ? (able to go the whole distance)

A sharp enough mental knife to be able to cut loose what's holding you back ?

Do you have what it takes ?

If not...why not ?

And what can you do to prepare yourself for this journey of a life time ?

Some food for thought....

Hello Anatta

Oh that is a good question.

I read somewhere that 90% of the people who begin transitioning fail. That's a scary number.

To succeed I think you need all of the above, and the emotional reassurance of a healthy pile of cash probably helps too.

I feel like I have all of the above in reasonable quantities at the moment, which is surprising because I was neither a confident person nor impervious to criticism in my previous life.

I read somewhere that 90% of those who begin transition fail.

I think you need all of those things, and probably a nice pile of cash helps too.

At the moment I think I'm maintaining decent levels of all of the above, which surprises me because I was neither a very confident person nor impervious to criticism in my previous life.

Kia Ora Joan,

It's amazing what one finds/what they can dig up when one really needs it...It's a resource that's already there, but more often than not yet to be tapped into....

Have a good and safe journey...

actually, i didnt have any of that. :) . the only thing i had was a condition..and the drive to get rid of it. when you have the drive i have you will do anything. including work as many jobs to finance . drive the distance to the doctor,4 hours to be exact,  be patient, cry but get back up..come out to relatives to only be shut down. how about all through highschool? yelp.. sounds like me. :). oh.. and if you want it bad enough... TRUST me, you will get it. regardless of any of these things you listed. i did. and doing.

I don't know about any of your list. I just reached a point of no return, I was going to be me and nothing was getting in the way (at least not for long).

Reminds me of a post I made a while ago about the difference between the androgyne and transsexual forums.

Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Kia Ora,

I guess another important factor to take into account(to add to the list) is desperation... It would seem to be the driving force for many of us... "Desperate times calls for desperate measures!"

I'm not on HRT yet.. only came out about 2 weeks ago.
However this is where I feel I'm at as well.

Kia Ora Sarah,

True....When a person feels they've got nothing left to lose, that when they just go for it....

Metta Zenda :)

I knowq the time it takes attaining some of these attributes is why there -are- late transitions.
