I used Dr S for my trach shave two years ago. And I used Dr Z for my lip lift one year ago. They are very different in personality.  I am also look at a chin and jaw shave and face lift as my next FFS.  I'm doing this gradually.

Dr S
Pros
More professional

Cons
Surgery is in a hospital
Distance for me requires plane trip
Did. to take enough off trach
Scar is low on neck not up under chin

Dr Z
pros
Drivable
In office surgery
Lip lift is perfect looks awesome

Cons
Treats his Staff poorly
His ego
Not happy with scar from lip lift will require rework

I'm curious to see if anyone else used both Drs you are considering.  Otherwise how can they rate/compare....
Happy T Gurl living as Vicky half time.

You know I can say one thing. Having had to live through the dam recovery from FFS I would say get all you ever intended to get done in the same operation. The recovery is not fun and I would never want to live through it more than once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way the doctor I used has a really car salesman sort of personality, I didn't like him but he did say one thing that struck me hard. He said I didn't want to have more than one surgery and so I might as well get it all done in one event. HE was totally correct.

Dr. Z is going to potentially do a lot more aggressive bone work on areas like the chin.
He took my chin from Jay Leno to little girl.
Not sure why anyone would say he was poor to his staff, he's constantly calling and checking in on me and heading up to my room.
As far as his "ego" he is very accomplished, heavily awarded, and a lead in his his field.
He is proud of his accomplishments and with his credentials he has earned the right to be proud of his accomplishments.

Dr. Spiegel has a bit more conservative approach.
It may just be what you are looking for.
I have had a real life ex-gf go to Spiegel, she was pleased with some of the results but felt he was not thorough enough with bone work.
Dr. Spiegel unfortunately has patients that need revisions from other surgeons at times, mostly due to open sinus work.

Very tough decision I have been struggling with myself.  I recently had in-person FFS consultations with Dr. Spiegel and Dr. Zukowski. Both doctors spent plenty of time with me and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. I was impressed with both and feel either would give a very satisfactory result. For me it is between these two surgeons for my FFS but I cannot yet decide which as they both seem to give good, safe results.

For me Dr. Z is a two hour plane ride home after surgery, but Dr. S is a 90 minute car ride plus close enough for followup care if needed. Dr. S quoted several thousand dollars higher price than Dr. Z, but a few thousand dollars is not really a factor for me when it comes to remaking my face.

I had the chance to meet several of Dr. Zukowski's patients recently at an event and the results were truely amazing. As in "wow"! I imagine Dr. Spiegel's girls look pretty amazing also.

Tough decision. I am planning FFS fall/early winter 2014.

Well hey Lauren, I just had my FFS done with Dr. Z a couple of days ago I have my recovery starting from 24 hours up here:

Great doctor, knows his stuff, I can ramble on about him a lot until my face turns blue.
I will say that he is very thorough with his descriptions, he likes you to be well informed, and he may talk your ear off.
Mostly he just want you to get in as much information as he can impress, information is his game.

If you need to ask anything about him, the facility, etc please let me know.
Personally I think he was the best choice for me, maybe not others, because he isn't a humble and modest soul.
Blunt, direct, honest, and to the point.  Military background, taught at a naval medical academy, you name it.
He wears his accomplishments like and banner and has worked hard to get where he has in his career, frankly he reserves the right to some ego!

I am probably just doting on him a bit much but after having consulted with Spiegel, Ousterhout, Cardenas, Brassard, Bensimon and a score of others their personalities just... were not strong and confident enough for me.

He is accomplished, very decorated and awarded, a lead surgeon in his field and in several new technologies and he isn't afraid to let you know about them.

End unfortunate fan girl rant.  :P
