Wow so tonight for me has been pretty eventful. I had been worried about my dog Tyko when I left for work he seemed a bit lethargic when I left for work so I asked a neighbor of mine to keep an ear out for him. Well I'm at work for an hour when my neighbor calls and tells me she hears my dog crying like he's in pain. I don't hesitate. I left walking from work and walked home (I don't live far from work and I was dropped off tonight). I nearly ran the whole way there. When I got there He was hiding under the couch. I already know he has a severe fear of the dark so I had left a nightlight on for him so he would be ok, but tonight he just needed a little bit more. I gave him his favorite treat and pet him. I felt his stomach and it was pretty taunt. Every now and then he does have digestive problems due to the odd things he eats (Mostly plastic). Then walked back to work. I was gone for a whole hour and no one noticed!! Who else would have done this for their pet?? or am I just crazy???

I would do it for mine in a heartbeat. He is my protector and home alarm and for that I spoil him rotten! After chasing off a danger he gets a double whopper from Burger King. Sometimes I do wonder if he is chasing danger off or throwing a fit for a burger though!

I do the same for my dog.  He is now 14 years old and has some health issues.  I feed him the best food out there.  He definitely eats better than I do.  By the way, keep the plastic away from your pup.  It could cause a blockage in his digestive tract and corrective surgery is really expensive. 

I absolutely, positively adore my dog. I work at a vet clinic, so she gets to come with me to work every day and it's wonderful <3 but yes, like mowdan said, try to keep the plastic away! I have seen so many dogs and cats have to get exploratory surgeries for eating silly things like rocks, toys, panties, socks, children's toys, thread, bones, etc! The list goes on and on! There is one dog named rocky that has come in literally 3 times in the past three months for eating rocks... no joke. His intestines are very scarred now... not good if he eats more rocks  Make sure if he doesn't get better to take him to the vet!! Keep us updated on your baby, hope he is feeling better today!!

I love my (sister's) dog.  Unfortunately he lives with my family while I'm away at college.  He's sorta my only friend.  I think that I understand animals a lot better than I understand people lol  .

Just thought I would add this.  I have a good friend that is an animal behaviorist, holistic trainer and animal communicator.  I contact her whenever my old guy is having a hard time.  Amazing how she can tune into him and her recommendations have always been spot on.  Well worth the bucks.  www.animalvisions.org

I don't want to alarm you, but if he's still not himself, he needs to see a vet immediately. That sounds like bloat.

I think what you did is very logical (although I would have told my boss).  I really, really think you should take your dog to the vet if he was crying (especially since a neighbor could even hear it!) and with the way his stomach feels.  Even if it is better by the time you read this, I would take him.  Please consider it.

I agree with what others have said here about seeing a vet.  Also, get your pup on a good diet.  The best dry foods I have found are either the PhD diet or Blue Buffalo.  Both expensive, but well worth it.  My 14 year old has been on the Blue Buffalo senior formula for years and doing well.  $17 for a small bag, but he is well worth it.  Since he is now on meds to help his breathing, I use the Evo ancestrial wet food just to mix in his meds. 

I've done crazy ->-bleeped-<- for animals like stopping my car to help a dog by the side of the road... luckily another guy pulled up also and we got it to safety... Luckily my pets haven't been in a situation where I had to run anywhere like that for anything like that.

Took him to the vet he fine now. Had to feed him activia to help his track but he was able to eliminate today so he feels so much better. I also got him a new chew toy to direct his chewing away from any plastics around the house while I'm not home. A big part of the crying was anxiety because he was in pain and no one was with him. I live with two other people who are gone this weekend so he's not used to being alone overnight. I've been watching him closely and he's doing well playing with our cat like normal.

Glad to hear he is doing well! I know my dog can get into some messy situations when I leave her home alone, so now she gets crated Luckily for me, she appears to like her crate; it significantly reduces her stress, as well as any trouble she can get into

I love my dogs and would do anything for them, so no, it's not silly. That being said, I think you posted this topic to the wrong forum. There's a general discussion forum that may be more appropriate, since this one is dedicated to FTM issues.

In a heartbeat. My dog had cancer and I spent over 10k on her doing surgeries to get rid of it and keep it gone. I spent another 10k on her for a partially torn ACL and didn't even ask for time off work when needed to take care of her, I just told them I was taking time off. My dog is my kid and I'd go to no shorter lengths taking care of her than I would a human child.

Glad to hear your dog is doing better.  I definitely would drop whatever I was doing and tend to my dog if the situation arose.  I hate to be cliche, but a dog really is a man's best friend.
