As I said earlier. The snow's pretty and all, but I like my boating, watersports, and fishing too much to move back up north, lol. ;)

Neat! One of the doctors at my work was just talking about yoopers (she is from Michigan). She said she was having a craving for pasties like she used to get over there. Do you have a recipe to recommend? Her description sounded soo delicious, I wanted to try my hand at them.

Hope you are staying warm in the snow over there! I don't know how yall survive over there! I'm in Virginia and public schools were literally closed all week because of 2 inches of snow! lol!

It may be beautiful, but also super cold when it's below freezing, the wind is blowing hard cold, and it spontaneously chamges from flurries to heavy, we snow, amd the wind blows it right in your face.

Last time I jumped into a lake it was Lake Eyre, got salt burn and bruises. Now that's what I call a Lake!

Lake Eyre isn't a lake, it's a salt pan. :-\

The closest I've been the UP is looking at it from across the Sault bridge, but this thread is making me nostalgic for Ontario north of Superior.

The traffic on that bridge going to the US is insane, mostly because customs is insane on the US side.
Canada: What are you doing today in Canada, eh?
Oh, going shopping, for lunch, maybe to the casino.
Have a great day in lovely Canada, eh!

US:
Where did you buy that?
Canadian Tire
Where is it a product of?
Umm, France?
I'm sorry, miss, you'll have to come with us.

This is easy to say because I have lived in Texas for the past 20 years, but, I would gladly swap my Winter for a Michigan Summer.

Our summers are nice, they're just too short..I'd trade Michigan winters for Texas summers!

I never enjoyed hunting or fishing.
Good thing II've never lived in the UP for more than a few months at a time, I'd be so bored with nothing real to do :P

I live just south of the bridge. Way to cold this winter.
Life is a team sport. Some of us just started out on the wrong team  :)

Being from the Sierras and now living in Florida I do miss the winters a little. The cold refreshes things, kills off bugs and other pests, etc., that otherwise would overrun things. Here this Winter in Fl. we've had a consistent cold snap (well what passes for cold down here) for the first time in 5 years. However though I love the snow and y'alls photos are making me homesick I also remember having to shovel it, the road salt that rusts up your car/truck, etc., etc., etc. And though in about two or three years I'll probably sell this place and head back out west I think I'll stay far enough south where I only get a little taste of the snow instead of 4-5 months of it. I do miss snow skiing though and other fun stuff snow brings. To deny that would be lying. I also miss the lack of humidity in northern New Mexico, Arizona, and the Sierra's (high desert) where the reservation is I'm from. ;) Thanks for sharing the photos!

I'd trade New Mexico for Chicago any day. Lived there 3 years.

It floods!

In a bad year, half of Western Canada turns into a lake.  :-\

Does this mean Canadians and Australians will be the first to return to gills?

I am with Cindy on this one.  That amount of snow belongs on picture postcards.

I spent a week in Detroit 10 years ago and landed in a snowstorm.  I hated snow before that and my opinion didn't improve.  I was impressed with how everyone just gets on with things  - pitchers of Margeritas in a Mexican restaurant the next day!!

I now also know where UP Michigan is and what "Yoopers" is about!  Love this place!

Heading towards 35C (95F) today and 39 (102) tomorrow in Melbourne. We are about to shut the house up and turn the air con on to cool the place down.

Sorry girls I've had some car problems, and made an unexpected stop at the evil place (casino).  Been out all day.

For those who want to see a parody about Yoopers, watch the movie Escanaba in da Moonlight.  It starts slow, but you'll know whats wrong with us Yoopers by the end.  I live here half the year, and take care of our family farm, so I guess I'm a Yooper.  "Ya der. Got'ta go to deer camp, eh."

I use my mom's recipe when I make them, but substitute carrots for rutabaga. Can't stand rutabaga because it tastes like it's name sounds.  I'll look for the recipe.

Wish I was in Texas today.  Got my jeep stuck in a snow bank near the Ford Alberta Mill, near L'anse.  Tried to drive in the 100 miles to Marquette on icy roads.  Got out with help from a nice guy in a 4X4 dodge truck.  I turned back and stopped at the Baraga Casino to warm up.

Last time I was on Isle Royale I sat up on the ridge and watched through binoculars as freighters and small craft went in and out of Thunder Bay.  Now I'm going to have to visit the place.  My avatar is me standing on a stump in front to Lake Superior at McClain State Park.  It's one of the places I go when I need peaceful reflecting time.

Where in the Sierras?  I'm in Tahoe a lot, and we spend time along the Walker River and all the way down to Lee Vining.  I'd spend winters in Tahoe any time compared to this.  At least between storms it warms up there.   :D
