Hi everyone. I'm Sarah, a (probable) 26 year old MtF. I've only recently come to terms with how I feel, and I'm still deciding whether to transition or not. Not sure what else to say; I'm not too good at introducing myself!

Hello Sarah!  Glad you found us.   :)

You know, not everybody within the "transgender umbrella" necessarily transitions (physically), and transition takes place on multiple levels.

It will be good to cruise the boards, get to know some of the others here who are like you, and get to really understand yourself.

Here are some links to help you navigate the site:

Welcome!!

Hi Sarah,

A big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while.

There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting.

Lovely name you have.  ;D.  Your introduction has been fine. This is a mammoth task you've taken hold of, but don't worry, you have all the time in the world to sort thought it. The most important bit has been done already. You've admitted to yourself who you really are. The rest is just pure detail.

Looking forward to hearing more of your story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.

Lotsa huggs
Catherine

One thing that has helped me about these forums is that there are people representing all sorts of paths. There are endless directions that you could go, and whatever path is right for you is right for you. My own path has been a little unusual, but on here, I never feel very lonely. I hope that you find the answers you are looking for, and I am sure you will have the full support of everyone here.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I suppose some background is appropriate. I'm 26, but have probably wanted to be female since about 14/15, and particularly strongly in the last year. I've had depression on and off since about roughly that time, probably at least partly due to gender issues but not entirely; I also have Asperger's and often struggle socially.

I'm currently more or less at the stage of coming out to my parents. So far only my sister, my GP and my counsellor know. My GP has offered to refer me to the nearest GIC (Charing Cross in London), and my counsellor has offered to back up my referral, but this makes it feel very 'real' and I'm apprehensive and quite scared about moving this forwards! I struggle a lot with change, but I don't see much of a future for myself as I am now.

Often times this can be the most powerful driver in which to move forward, Sarah. Transition is such a profoundly dynamic life changer, that to navigate it successfully, you need laser vision to keep your goals in sight at all times. This does require you to ignore a lot that's happening around you, for it to be a success. And that's not at all bad.

Being scared isn't bad either. It's quite healthy as it ensures we are owing the right things for the right reasons.

Keep on keeping on, girl

Aspergers is fairly common in the TG/TS community.

Best of luck to you with your parents.
