So, I contacted the HR department of the company I work for.
I talked to my boss today, and found out that HR called our area supervisor.  So, while they are behind me legally speaking I found out that I can't use my preferred name yet or at least until I get a name change.
And on name changes, in Boulder County it can take up to like 3 months to get one.

That is interesting.

There is another thread covering similar territory in this forum.

I did like how one person mentioned that people often go by nicknames. I mean, they may not be able to put your name on checks or your time card yet, but they should be able to call you by name to your face and even on your name tag. They may not legally need to do that, but you may find they are polite enough to do it.
