Hello ladies I'm about a little over a week now post op. How much water to you suppose I should drink in the hospital they wanted me to be very hydrated. I love water but hate drinking it because makes me urinate so much and urinating hurts. I have to sit on the toilet and wait for it. It sucks. My pee hole is bloody and looks like it's repairing itself but it's sucks.

Drink as much as you feel you need, ie if you feel you're dry, drink.

I these days, long time post op drink about 5lts a day.

Recovery is tough huh!!

They say 1.5 litre a day but drink as much as you need, it gets much easier i am sure
I was on catheter for 3 weeks after srs so I never had to experience the hurtful pee so much.

Whatever you do don't hold it in. You really don't want a bladder infection at this stage in recovery. Hope you heal well soon Serena

Post-srs, I had the catheter removed after a week or so. I cut out tea and coffee and only drank water leading up to the removal. Once it was out, peeing was normal and painless. So I can only assume that there must be some sort of infection, as it shouldn't be painful. Antibiotics will sort that out quickly. I made sure I drank lots of plain water to flush out bacteria that could cause an infection. But peeing was my main worry.

Could you maybe ask your family doctor or urologist about potentially using a topical anesthetic like Lidocaine? Its short acting and would probably help loads (if they haven't prescribed it for you already.)

If you're still on the antibiotics that ensure all possible infections are avoided, you'll need to drink lots of water. Possibly as much as 2-3 litres a day. Those antibiotics do dehydrate the body substantially. Cranberry juice may ease your pain of urination if there is signs of infection near your urethra.

Check with your surgeon that recovery is on track as you are still in a critical stage of recovery.

I know when I was post op I tried to drink two liters a day. Turned out to be a good number. Congratulations on reaching the other side by the way.

You should drink as much as you can, mainly because you are healing and there is a chance you could heal "over" and not be able to pee at all or it could be very very painful.  I would ask your doctor as well. I had the catheter in for 2.5 weeks and at that time they had me drinking like a horse.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I tried something new today after my friend last night mentioned that I shouldn't be drinking Orange Juice in the morning at this stage of my recovery. Today I cut out the orange juice and have been staying hydrated drank a poweraid as well as been drinking water. Since cutting the OJ the pain has been getting less and less as well as my urination is getting stronger and stronger. Feel like I'm heading towards the right direction well I hope so! lol. It still hurts but its not as bad as it was for sure.
