I was listening to a great show on CBC Radio One tonight and they were discussing how dance has influenced society through the ages.
The discussion got to the topic of the waltz, you know the Viennese type, and how it took Europe by storm way back when. It went on to remark that when it was introduced by the French in England, how the English reacted. "They were horrified, appalled and generally disgusted" that a man would be permitted or even want to place his hand on the waist of a woman. Even Byron, a well known, popular liberal author of the time, was beside himself that such carryings on should be allowed.
Whew! I'm glad that we don't have to suffer as folks did back then. Wait a sec... we do... Some things never change.
