How common is sagging after a jaw reduction?

Hello,
I'm interested in getting a jaw reduction but I'm nervous my skin will sag afterwards. I had my chin bone reduced and an implant put in but I now have a bit of a double chin and I'm 26 years old. If it does cause sagging how is it corrected?

Any information is appreciated!

Thanks  :)

Hiya.

I had jaw recontouring about 2 weeks ago in the uk and am now age 30. I started HRT and transitioned in 2002 if that's relevant I don't know, but my skin is I'm very good condition. I am finding there is no sagging at all, as the swelling goes down, my skin is snapping back in place, and my cheekbones are now more prominent already.

At 26 I very much doubt you will have any issues.  :)

Usually after a jaw reduction they are going to do a jaw lift with the skin, sort of like a face/neck lift, to prevent you having that excess skin.
This has been the case with my chin and jaw surgery, but I cannot say the same for others.

I was advised that patients that are in their twenties or thirties generally wouldn't need any face lifting as the skin was still elastic enough to snap back in place, no guarantees but in most circumstances that was what would happen and none of the surgeons I consulted suggested I would need a face lift after jaw surgery. And so far, my skin has done exactly as described to me, it's snapped back in place and as the swelling subsides (3 weeks post op this Wednesday) my cheekbones are becoming more prominent than before.

I had chin & jaw angle reduction ... this was followed by a neck lift (but then I am 51!)

JourneyingSam You wrote "followed by a neck lift"....Was this procedure done at the same time as the chin and jaw reduction?  Or did you wait and then have the lift done at a later date?

The reason I ask Is because I have heard some Doctors Believe you should wait and do the lift after the swelling from the chin and jaw reduction procedure.  Strange to hear two opposing opinions from FFS surgeons.

You can rest assured that at the age of 26 you're very unlikely to get sagging skin. The skin will just snap back on its own. I had FFS almost two years ago and I was told I would probably need a facelift once the swelling had gone, but hey, I'm more than twice your age. I'm still undecided about the facelift. So don't sweat it!

I had a scalp advance to help with my high/uneven browline.  This required an 8 week period for the "extender" to work "stretching" my scalp.
My first op at the end of May included my jaw work.
My second op at the end of July included lip-lift as well as face & neck lifts.  The swelling around my jawline had much reduced (gone) by then.
