Okay, so I'm (young) & I'm 5'3. I wanna be at least 5'7 5'8 but should I try & get human growth hormones prescribed to grow taller 1st or should I just take Testorone? I'm just scared wondering what if T doesn't help me grow taller? Idk. If I stayed 5'3 & transioned into male I would be very insecure. This is why I need to know if myngoal to reach 5'7 or 5'8 is possible..

Can I get prescribed growth hormones? & should my mom make an appointment with my doctor to see if my growth plates are capped or whatever.. ? I'm really hoping I can use something to grow taller before starting T.. if not.. I hope T will help v.v

For your own safety, you really should not post your age as a minor.

The only was I know of to determine whether your growth plates have fused is to have them x-rayed.  There are ways to test "bone age."  And not all growth plates fuse at the same time.

My understanding is that natal females generally stop growing around the age of 18; natal males somewhat later.

I am in your exact situation right now, I am 5'3 (Though some might argue 5'2) And I look mostly male except for my chest and height, which bothers me greatly.

I'm not sure if one can get growth hormones, but I know T can give a person an extra growth spurt before they stop growing. It varies from person to person, but I hear a person stops growing sometime around 18. I've grown about an inch since last year, so I'm trying to start T soon to see if I can get in something before it's too late. All I know is that the sooner, the better.

I'm not sure if you can get Hgh if you don't have Growth hormone deficiency, and it tends to be very expensive when not covered by insurance. It might be possible, but you might wanna ask someone with more experience in that field. Going to your doctor and asking is usually a good option. (:

Hope this helps somewhat.

If you're absolutely sure T is what you need then really the sooner the better. Pretty much all of your questions can be answered with "it depends" ... you may or may not grow taller, your doc may or may not be willing to prescribe growth hormones, etc.

If it helps, I am 5'3 and have had no trouble transitioning successfully. My height is a non-issue and I've met several cis guys that are as short or shorter than me. I was done growing when I was 13 and didn't start T until I was 23. I haven't increased in height but my shoulders have broadened and my feet have gone from a 4 to a 6. Of course, it varies for everyone - you'll hear anecdotes all over the scale.

I suggest (though I know it's easier said than done) that you try not to worry about "what ifs" - just take the changes as they come and think of them all as an improvement on your current situation, one step at a time.

I don't believe my height keeps me from being read as male. I am 5'1" and small frame at that. Just act like you know what you're doing and project confidence. A LOT safer and cheaper than growth hormones.

I doubt you'll get growth hormones, I've never heard of anyone getting them.  That's not to say that it's never happened, but it's not something I've ever come across.

I think working through your insecurities about your height is the best thing that you can do at this time, maybe before even trying to get on T as it sounds to me like you're not sure if you'd want the T if you were to stay at your current height.  It's hard to come to terms with, at 5'2" I'm shorter than even most girls I know, and have a struggle every time my work issues uniform or PPE.  It took me 4 months, and into winter, before they could source a coat for me.  I hate it, it's embarrassing, and it makes me dysphoric but it's a fact of life. I could have been this height if I was born cis.  There's an instructor at my work, in his fifties, that is the same height as me (I reckon he's actually half an inch shorter but he won't admit it).  Every time we see each other we make short related jokes, and this is how I deal with it.  My height irritates and bothers me no end, but it's always something I can make a joke out of, and if I joke about it first then no one else can use it against me in a nasty way.

I, too, am a transman. I have not started T. However, I am 5'3" and a bit scrawny. I can easily pass pre-T despite my height. I think you will be fine. Some people like shorter men (not to be creepy or anything, just an observation from experience). =) Good luck.

I stressed and stressed about my height(I'm 5'4") only to find that when I went out there were a lot of guys who were my height or shorter and they seemed to fit in just fine.

But to answer your questions it's really going to depend on a lot of factors.  Like people  have mentioned it will depend on if your growth plates have fused, what your genetic predisposition is, etc.  For example, I would probably not have made 6' tall anyway because people in my family are short.  My dad's 5'10" and his sister is 4'11".

Your best bet is to talk to your doctor about it.  If you're young enough, going on T might make you grow some, but probably not 4 or 5 inches.

I believe estrogen is what causes the growth plates. Testosterone can be aromatized, which will produce more estrogen. Generally growth plates close 2 years after your period starts. I would think that if you were hoping to be taller blockers could be provided if your not to far into puberty.

I'm 5'1-2" and I was prescribed growth hormone because I had a legitimate growth hormone deficiency. I was growing at about a half inch a year before it and at one point I grew around 2 inches in a 3-6 month period. I think I was around 5'0" when I started my period and gained about 1.25 inches. If your period has started your probably not going to have much growth afterwards. If you have been on the very low end of female height most of your life I would consider it, but your height indicates that you probably weren't at the low end you whole life.

on the subject of period slowing your growth...

really that depends if you've got a normal period too, i believe.

I "started" my period over the course of a year when i was 13. it wasn't a cycle it was just spotty bleeding, would go away for a few months come back for a day gone again for a few months. later down the road i found out i have PCOS. it's very common, but it's alsoa  condition that boosts your natural testosterone output and i think having it counteracted some of the normal things that should have happened. I only really noticed i stopped growing about ayear ago, im 19, and im 5'10" now. so you may start your period but there are factors that can change that you generally stop growing after your period thing.

(I've also got a naturally fuzzy face, some stray hairs on my chest and my boobs are small, and I like to think that's because i don't have a typical amount of testosterone in my body naturally. so i would look into that if you can or notice your cycles aren't typical.)

wheat thins are delicious

I saw the reason why explained thoroughly, but I can't remember what exactly was said, but the jist of it was that testosterone speeds up closure of the growth plates which will stop height increase.

Height is more an issue as a young person. Adults usually really don't care about this and I am treated respectfully regardless. I have never been laughed at. I often joke about being vertically challenged. Kids tend to care because they take out their own insecurities laughing at the various perceived weaknesses of their peers.

If your under 17 I would advise you get on puberty blockers. It will stop your periods and stop you from becoming any more feminine. It will also allow you to keep growing. HGH is dangerous be careful. Even if you do take testosterone the blockers will make sure you have less side effects as there wont be conflicting hormones in your body.
