Hello!

I am planning to get a metaidioplasty (meta with vaginectomy, urethral lengthening, scrotoplasty) this spring/summer with Dr Brassard in Montreal. I was wondering if anyone knew of blogs, sites, or if anyone would like to PM me about their recovery experience with this surgeon, or with one who uses a similar technique. He uses the vaginal mucosa to do the urethral lengthening, and usually does scrotal implants 6 months later (www.grsmontreal.com).

I am trying to book time off work for this, and knowing it is financially difficult, I wonder how the recovery goes. All the resources I found are for Dr Miro, who I am sure is fantastic, but much of the process is different. For one, I am a few years post-hysto/oopho.

Thanks!

I had the one stage procedure by Dr. Miro (hysto also had been done years prior).  Healing time was minimum 6 weeks; I had some delayed healing so all in all took 4 months.  I went back to work in 8 weeks.  The implants were not remotely bothersome so I don't think that not having that done at the same time will necessarily speed healing since the bulk of the work is in freeing the penis and making the urethra.

Brassard was on my list of surgeons but I went with Dr. Miro for two reasons: one stage procedure, and the fact that he is a pediatric urologist and does surgery on tiny penises all the time.

Oh and the 3rd reason was it was cheaper, even factoring in airfare and lodging.

Thanks Jay :)

I am going with Brassard because I am in Canada, and that through luck I am able to get it covered by provincial health insurance. Otherwise, it would probably be over a decade before I could afford it, if at all. I have seen Brassard's work on metas on a few guys, and thought they looked great, as well. Definitely being a urologist gives Dr Miro more credibility - good to know for my friends considering him!

Hello! Sorry to bump and older thread, but I had questions about medicare covering Dr. Brassard's work. Are you in Quebec then? I'm Canadian and pondering if moving to Quebec would give me a chance at it. I'm living abroad at the moment but originally hail from New Brunswick, where trans* stuff isn't covered...

Thanks~

Hi,

Sorry to re-bump an old thread. I am in Ontario right now, and have gotten funding approval from MHLTC after being assessed by CAMH. That is the procedure for Ontario, for those of us who are low-income or have other reasons we need to access trans surgical care via state funding, and Quebec and other provinces and territories work differently. In Ontario, if you can provide rationale and are approved by CAMH`s GIC, you have the option to request a different non-Canadian surgeon. In Quebec, I am not sure, but wait times seem less long (about 2.5 years for me to get here being Ontarian) and mostly are based on getting letters from a sexologist/therapist and sending your funding request to RAMQ (QC health insurance). Check out CAMH's adult GIC website and Rainbow Health Ontario for Ontario information, and www.atq1980.org, Montreal GRS Clinic website and trans QC orgs for more QC info. They also make a nice quide in QC called "Self-Refferred" which could be useful for you (and easily available in PDF format in EN/FR via good old Google).

Cheers,

X
