Been awhile since I've done pigtails:)

This was last summer when my hair was much shorter and I was headed out to lay in the sun,

hello yes pigtails are GREAT on EVERYONE but i find that shorter pigtails are mostly thought (by all my guy friends at least) to be cute while longer pigtails say more adventure and sporty.

either way, those little pigtails you are rocking are AWESOME. id say keep rocking them.

AND MICHELLE your hair is gorgeous okay im done intruding

Emily, I really like your cute short pigtails, they are adorable!

I haven't had my hair cut in over two years and I'm almost dreading even getting it trimmed but I think I really should sometime soon to get some of the damaged ends taken care of.

I'm really glad for you GF's. So cool. I wish my hair was long enough for pig tails. Have fun.

You need to practice and then check in the mirror to see what it looks like from the back!

The part should be straight down the middle with the hair divided equally on both sides and the ties should be at equal height on both sides. But if that's your first attempt, it isn't bad.

It would help to have your hair a little damp so it isn't too fly-away and combed STRAIGHT back from the crown. Use the comb to form the part and flip one side over your shoulder while you work on the other side. Now comb the first side straight to where you want the base of the pig tail using your thumb and first finger to hold it there until everything is lying flat. If you put an elastic tie on your wrist before your start, you can slip it down over the hair when you are ready and repeat for the other side. It's quite simple once you get the knack of it.

(For much of my life I wore my hair in braids or pig tails when doing "dirty work" or to stay cool in hot weather. After a while you get so you can do it without a mirror.)

Thanks Jane I'll try it that way next time I'll have to practice some more thanks for your response.

I think pigtails are pretty and look nice, but people often associate that as a little girl thing.  If you don't mind possibly attracting some more attention then you normally would do, then by all means go for it.  However, they may make blending in a bit more difficult if you are planning on that.  Otherwise, I think they look fine.  Sorry just had to offer that warning.

Thanks for your comment if I do pigtails it's only at home I'm just enjoying what I missed out on earlier on in life.

I totally understand.  There are many things that I'll never get to experience and have missed out on for good.  It's one of the hardest things to deal with when transitioning.

Though, I do want to say they look nice on you.  For some reason I think the shorter tails make it look more presentable.  And I hope you didn't feel criticized, it's just it's an attention grabbing hairstyle by it's nature, so that's why I wanted to warn everyone.

I love your pigtails! So cute. It's weird though because my hair is nearly shoulder length and I haven't tried pigtails yet just to try it. That's something I should do today!  :D

Hmmmmmm... I've hesitated to comment on this but I'm gonna go for it here. Remember, you asked.

Right now, your neck is a bit too large for that to look cute and your hair isn't nearly long enough. You'll get there but yeah, don't wear that outside the house. I'm not trying to be unsupportive but, honesty is kinda my thing and those don't look great right now. Give it another year, do the HRT thing for a bit, and flat-iron the hell out of those things (after a thorough washing, rinsing, conditioning, post-conditioning, etc.)

I do pigtails from time to time. Especially when I'm going somewhere to be flirty/sexy/etc. It's a fun hairstyle but you've gotta take care with it.
