testosterone side effects list

I went to the doctor today and she had me sign like five pages listing the side effects. Liver problems, heart disease, balding, severe effects on pregnancy, long term effects unknown for organ x...basically the only possible side effect it didn't list was "testosterone may cause death" and that would be filed under "men on average live five years less than women, so you may be shortening your life span by taking testosterone...". It's like being in your own tv commercial where at the end, the guy rapidly goes through a list of deadly side effects. @.@

The doctor did specify that it's just a list of things that may happen so that I won't be surprised by anything but that's enough to unnerve just about anyone...I was tempted to show it to my dad and go, "Look how deadly it is becoming you." :D

lol  It's like anything - you're introducing a foreign substance into your body, and a hormone at that - but there are also deadly side effects of oestrogen in the body, so go figure.

Doctors are obligated to point out the "might happens" so they aren't slapped with a lawsuit and/or lose their licences.  Either way, don't fret too much.

Did you ever read the possible side effect list of a simple aspirin? Even that list is huge, yet everybody takes the pills for small aches. Like Kreuzfidel said, pharmacists are obligated to list the possible effects.

Of course, testosterone is something completely different, being a hormone and influencing many things in one's body. Listing the side-effects should make you aware of that.

You should see the warning labels for medication for acne, restless leg syndrome and balding. When I was a pharmacy tech we used to laugh for hours about the crazy long lists.

They are required to make you sign things like that.

Yes, I'm aware of crazy side effect lists for simple things (and testosterone, it wasn't a surprise.) It's why I find this so funny. Laugh! :P

My endo told me a lot of the studies are questionable, anyway - most are performed on cisgender men who abused steroids. For FTMs, there's just not a lot of data out there.

lol. Yeah, side effect lists on medication and hormones are getting ridiculous. I consider all of those side effects to be less harmful than being forced to live in the wrong body though.

People aren't always used to these kinds of lists. I used to read the pharmacy lists for everything I took. Just about everything caused "sudden death". Well I'm not dead yet.  :)

I used to take Accutane.  That was the craziest list I'd ever seen.  Had to sign three waivers and take mandatory birth control as well as sign a form stating that on top of oral birth control I'd also use a barrier method.  I was really freaked out until I talked to my dad(he's worked for various pharmaceutical companies) and he told me that they are required to list any event that happened during drug trials, even if it was possible the 'side-effect' wasn't related.  Only side effect I got was chapped lips.
