Empty Suit vs The Strong Man  :icon_ballbounce:

In the spirit of what Susan's is all about let me say that I cannot imagine being GLB or trans in either of those countries.

I can't either, I can imagine being behind bars though.

Peace thru weakness never works and it never has, but these failed ideas appear timeless though unfortunately.

Welcome to the third world America!

I'm wondering, since Churchill saved the world during WWII, who will stand up and be the current day Churchill?

Netanyahu is the only one who comes to mind that's capable.

My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Go home and get a nice quiet sleep. - Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, September 1938

We will show the courage to try and resolve our differences with other nations peacefully. Not because we are naive about the dangers we face, but because engagement can more durably lift suspicion and fear.

America will remain the anchor of strong alliances in every corner of the globe. And we will renew those institutions that extend our capacity to manage crisis abroad. For no one has a greater stake in a peaceful world than its most powerful nation. We will support democracy from Asia to Africa, from the Americas to the Middle East, because our interests and our conscience compel us to act on behalf of those who long for freedom. And we must be a source of hope to the poor, the sick, the marginalized, the victims of prejudice.

Not out of mere charity, but because peace in our time requires the constant advance of those principles that our common creed describes; tolerance and opportunity, human dignity and justice.
- Barack 0bama, January 2012

As long as you don't live in Ukraine, go home and get a nice quiet sleep.

"A White House official emailed some reporters to say that President Obama's team met today to discuss the ongoing situation on Ukraine. It appears President Obama did not attend."

It's Saturday.  The golf course calls!

In October 2008, after Russia's invasion of neighboring Georgia emerged as a foreign policy flashpoint in the homestretch of a heated campaign, Palin told an audience in Nevada, "After the Russian army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama's reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia's Putin to invade Ukraine next." - Gov Sarah Palin, 2008

I didn't even think about that, I bet you're right!

Russians Spetnaz, in Ukraine, in unmarked vehicles and uniforms without insignias or identifying marks - violations of the Geneva Accords.

Putin has made clear his desire to bring back the evil soviet empire. Once again the world chose not to listen. The soviets may be coming back and Iran is on a clear path to get nukes. I say that's a much more dangerous world.

So much for the "we will guaranty you National integrity (USA UK)"

Do you think that if Ukraine have nuclear weapons we would be talking about a Russian invasions?

I am sure other countries are watching this one carefully, thinking about just how wise is to give up the nuclear option...

BTW before the "tree huggers and Lola Granola types come out the wood work" let me tell you that I am not advocating war at all. Having seen war up close and having some "skin" in the game; I am all for a peaceful resolution. However, a strong Nation goes a long way in the making and keeping of peace

I can't see the U.S. getting involved militarily either, not directly. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much economic sanctions can affect the situation. Putin has been cozying up with all the usual despots of the world that will block any meaningful sanctions. Should we be helping arm the Ukrainian army? Seems like a good plan, but I don't expect much out of the U.S. administration. So far Obama's response has been very weak and confused.

Most Americans are too busy waiting for the next iPhone or whatever gadget they prefer to prevent them from observing real life.

The fact is Ukraine has strategic assets that Russia has interest in, the EU and the US don't really have a strong interest. Why should we go to war over something that isn't really that important to our own interests? I am not convinced that the current government of the Ukraine is any bastion of human rights either, since one of the first things they did was get rid of protections for minority languages. They pushed Crimea's fears with actions like that and Putin saw a justification beyond his true motives of securing his influence and warm water port.

I find it hilarious that anyone could blame the president though. It isn't Obama's fault that the people here don't want to go to war with one of the largest armies in the world for little or no direct gain to us. We are a selfish people, Europe is too; while people at home whine about our debt, it would be political suicide to get into another unfunded war that has the potential to cost far more than Iraq and Afghanistan ever did. The people of this country simply don't want war, blame them if you want, but if they were clamoring for it chances are it would be delivered.
15 years on Susans, where has all the time gone?

Putin is a thug and Obama has threatened to not have planning meetings for a summit.

It it weren't so pathetic, it would be laughable.

1939 Poland wasn't in our national interest either ... until it was.

1930s: German remilitarization; in the name of protecting German interests Austrian Anschluss; seized Sudetenland; seized the rest of Czechoslovakia; invaded Poland - WWII

2010s: Russian remilitarization; in the name of protecting Russian interests seized South Ossetia; seized Abkhazia; invaded sovereign Ukraine - what next?

"Weakness begets opportunism."

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with the Presidency.

It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama Presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their President.

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America.

Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their President."

This is so true.

Obama reminds me of Truman Burbank in the 'Truman Show'. Think about it.

Absolutely no-one would want to get involved in a war over that situation, it would be global suicide. On the other hand what makes people cringe is when your country's leader bends over and tells Medvedev that he will be able to do more about disarming America's nuclear deterrent once the elections are over and Medvedev replies saying, "I'll relay that to Vlad!" It was clearly treasonous. Now he is disarming the nation to levels below that of pre-WWII. American's don't need any international enemies under these circumstances now do they?

This part is something so many Americans have to come to terms with, having your candidate win the election isn't going to fix our cultural problem.

It's a multi-faceted problem and much of it was by design. It begins largely with our rotten public school system indoctrinating unsuspecting children with garbage, which is followed up with even worse garbage on college campuses.

And that's just one of the deep problems that need rooted out.

The next provocation will be in Eastern Ukraine.

Germany in the 1930s.  Japan in the 1930s.  It is happening again and there are no more Winston Churchill's.
