You'd probably struggle with finding work for Pascal to be honest. Most places are using PHP, Python and Ruby these days. A better option is to maybe look at jobs you'd like and see what the requirements are, then learn those skills :)

One thing that is worth learning - Objective-C. Make iOS apps with it, you make a ton of cash :)

University student. Ugh, I hope I get a job after. Summers are the worst, apparently people have to be super qualified just to bag groceries.

I work in education. I'm a middle/high school teacher. I love the job but I wish it wasn't in the spotlight of the community so much.

Just another driver here and part time musician. Yeah and you other folks are right it gets old and boring really fast. The best thing for me about it was that I owned and still own the truck but once you cross the US at least 10 times there is nothing left to see that's new another plus side is that I am alone unless I am loading, unloading and getting fuel. Dangerous, underpaid, underappreciated, overworked and overstressed sums up driving a truck in the US especially east of the Mississippi River.

I agree with this... When did it become so hard to find a simple summer or part time job.. I've got two bachelor degrees and have been denied a plethora of jobs over the past year and a half that I was certainly qualified for... only to walk into those establishments later and find people who are clearly under qualified for the position working there... Its absurd.  (that or they want to pay me 7.25 an hour.... I'm certainly not above it if I need it to live, but come on guys.. Really?!) 
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

I'm sorry but I really cant add any reason but I totally agree with you that it is too common to simply be coincidental. I belong to a trans* support group in RL and there is a large number of IT professionals in the group as well.  I would love to hear theories on why there is such a large number of IT professionals that apparently are trans *.

I've noticed a strong overlap between IT professionals and Aspergers, also between being trans* and Aspergers, but so far not such a lot between being trans* and being an IT professional.

One reason may simply be that there are A LOT of IT jobs out there nowadays.  Another may be that oftentimes trans people don't like to go out into public very often, and thus end up spending a lot of time with their computers/working on computers because its so easily a non face-to-face activity.

I'm finishing up my PhD in comparative literature but also worked for a number of years as a web and graphic designer, after getting an MFA in visual art. I just like school. :)

No experience=no job=no experience.
I see so many people getting jobs from their connections with people, that sometimes it's hard to not get envious because I feel better qualified. I hate consumerism and how much we rely on it to create enough jobs needed for us.

Sorry that was sorta a ranty post, but I definitely can understand how you feel. I'm only halfway through my Bachelor's, I can't imagine the rejections you face having gone through the trouble of two.

Yea... from such intellectual institutions as Home Depot... and Moes southwest grill =p  bastards.  Granted I haven't attempted to apply for full time jobs as there isn't much time with school... maybe I'll have better luck actually applying in my field(s)

10-13 tried mother's finger nail polish, dresses and her heels
23 phase of body building and then suddenly cross dressing and wearing makeup
26 started calling myself Kristy in my voicemail recording
36 saw therapist, went on HRT and partially identified as Kristy
37 moved and started HRT again, dressing a little more feminitely
41 started HRT again, and wife made agreement if I would give up Kristy
45 started HRT again, this time for good, because wife didn't hold up her end of the agreement.  New agreement with 11 year old son and wife is that Kristy be present only at certain times and not around strangers or family, unless they are ready to be a part of Kristy.

There are not THAT many IT jobs out there, without having an unrealistic amount of experience in a given area.  Companies are looking for an edge, and moving away from the status quo.  There are a lot of job ads out there, and companies love to say that they're desparately in need of help (looks good to investors and intimidates competitors.

Retail/admin and musician, although the music has been on hold for an extended period due to a number of reasons... aaaaand I'd kinda like to tilt the balance of my main job to admin/retail... Or just ditch the retail part and get a better paying admin job that isn't as centred on dealing with the general public!  :laugh:

eh.. I'm a theatre/bio nerd... what do I know, but it certainly seems to be a large field.

I have been on both sides of the desk in the IT field, specifically working for and as a technical recruiter.  Unless you are incredibly good at what you do, technology-wise, or you possess skills in areas not taught in most colloges and universities, you are not going to have much luck.  Beyond the above-mentioned you also have to be able to articulate this to these firms, many of whom expect applicants to be able to rewrite the world.  It's an exponentially more diffcult task for someone who is trans.  I don't know anything, either. ;)
