I've heard about this dream before....have even had a similar dream. In fact, right here in front of me, thumbtacked to the cork board is an ad I have enlarged that reads...."Private Island-Fox Island, NY 263+ acres. 5,000 s.f home with 8 bedrooms 5 bath lodge plus 1/2 acre mainland lot with boat dock and a 3,000 foot grass landing strip, etc., etc. Visit schraderauction.com

We are already working on the money part, would love partners. Anyone game? Every dream comes with wings. Who's ready to soar?

P.S. That "open" and "inclusive" attitude is what I thought America was all about?

LOL, even without visiting the auction site, I have a feeling this is WAAAY out of my financial bracket. I might be able to afford to go in with the folks who wanted property in Siberia though  ;D

Sounds like a Second Life area... Do animated intimacy balls come included?

Really, you can have that TG island in virtual worlds and you don't have to worry about passing. Everyone is a hottie!

If America was about being open and inclusive, we wouldn't have this website to escape to.

On TG Island, everyone passes.

And who would govern this colony? I mean, we can't even get along in a forum. Can you imagine what happens when a crossdresser moves in next to a 100% passing elitist? And what about androgens? Ignored by the elitists, ignored by the crossdressers. Could a self proclaimed sexual fethishist crossdresser really get elected mayor here?

No, what would happen is there would be segregation. All the crossdressers would live together in the same place. All the androgens would live together, All the primary transsexuals would live together, all the secondary transsexuals would live together. This TG utopia would have all the same problems that society has.

I would bet my bottom dollar that if we had elections here at Susan's, that a "true transsexual" would be elected leader and probably a pretty one. The hierarchy would show it's ugly self. No, segregating ourselves from society is not going to change anything. If we could get to the point where we all accepted ourselves and each other, the problem would already be solved and there would be no need for a TG colony.

Love always,
Elizabeth

Yay!!!

Another pessimist... er.. realist like myself.

Just like in the planet of the apes, there will be fragmentation and then division. I mean, who else is going to make our Nikes and Hummers. The lower class! Bwwhahahahaha...

So while the andros and crossers and barely passable trans fight amongst each other to gain praise from the truers, the truers will be revered for their beauty.

This will be documented in the movie: "Transtopia: The Gorgeous Beginnings"

Then the crossers and andros, upset at the imbalance will rise in revolt.. yielding....

"The Andro-Crossers: The Ultimate Betrayl"

Then the beautiful trans, afraid for their safety, flee the island to merge with regular society, as shown in the third installment:

"Transunion... or, The Plain Remain"

I have no idea where this spiel came from...

it would be nice to have our own community/colony away from the outside world.

who gets to be the president?   (hehehehe)

sadly, i find the down side is that there will always be discrimnation even in the smallest group of people.
but maybe it can be changed.  there is still hope!

I´d only go if the food were good, cheap and plentiful - and the fruitjuice, milkshake and beer more so.

QuoteI dunno, Elizabeth. I'd be willing to vote for either Zythera or Rebis. They seem kewl, kind and intelligent. They'd probably make good leaders.

Haha, I wouldn't run for that office, if elected, I will not serve  ;D Well, hmmmm, what are the fringe benefits? Is there chocolate involved???? A beautiful medieval castle perhaps??? Damsels in distress?   ;D >:D

I cannot lead.  I'm actually a very good doer of other people's plans as long as I agree with the plan.

I think Elizabeth could do it.  She has an eye for the big picture and she seems decisive.  My role would be visiting people and making sure they feel happy and good.

You know, I've come to realize that whenever I propose some utopia type ideal, a lot of people come right out and tell me it's not possible.  Well, not with that attitude it isn't.

Can't we all just pretend to get along?    :)

I just realized that Susan should be Princess.  She makes it work here, so why not in the colony too?

Perhaps we can move Mad Ludwig's Neuschwanstein there? It isn't medieval, but....http://www.whatiwonder.com/vacation/germany/060706/images/p1010152.jpg

And yes, no damsel, but I can be distressed!

Nichole

Wow, if we lived in that joint, it would take us weeks just to say "goodnight" to everyone.

Of course, the TV would be in my room.

It just occurred to me that the title for our leader would have to be 'babysitter'.

Hmmm, pretty nice place, I want one of the turrets for my room ;D

I could be the damsel in distress, and let down my hair for the beautiful androgynous fairy prince/cess, or frog, or whatever....

I'll be the troll living in the dungeon.  We still have an opening for jester and monster in the moat :)

I'm wondering if anyone else does the same type of thing?  What's up with nudest colonies?  Do ppl live there?  Is it a weekend thing?  How do they do it?  The only other things I can think of is a commune and a cult.

I think you can start small.  Maybe a house with a few rooms & a haven for down & out TS's.  Charge rent to cover mortgage.  Later incorporate & move to something larger.  Very doable.  Probably be able to make money but I'd go non-profit.

Yea.  I like it.  Count me in.  I don't have any money but I'm full of ideas :P

I was thinking of that once too.  Hmmmmmm.

Doc

So far as I know, nudist colonies are not really colonies, but clubs. No doubt somebody lives there and probably recieves room, board and a stipend for maintaining the house and grounds, but most of the members live somewhere else and pay a membership fee, and that pays the mortgage, property tax, utilities and upkeep of the place, and gives said members right to use the place whenever they please or whenever the rules say it's okay. Neighborhood 'beach clubs' make good examples 'cause they tend to be in tiny forms and are not for-profit country-clubs, which are businesses and don't give members a share in ownership. The ones I'm familiar with, a dozen or so residential properties include not only their own lots, but a share in a lot that has access to the water, giving everybody beach-front property rights while sparing them the expense of actually having their house on a lot by the water.

For the kind of thing we're talking about, a better comparison might be monestaries and the retreat-center type places owned by religious groups. Some people live and work there and are supported by charitable donations and by running the place as a retreat-center. People pay to come stay there for vacations or to hold conventions there, residents look after these visitors. Often these places also produce some sort of high-end agricultural product. Specialty beers, mead, honey, the plum-jam made by the Buddhists at Plum Village, New Skete's trained German Shepherd Dogs, that sort of thing.

'Real' communes tend to do the agricultural/craft thing but not host the visitors.

That sort of thing isn't really out of reach, depending on where you located it and how many people wanted to join or support it. Land that's far away from places of employment tends to be cheap. It'd be pretty concievable to get a big peice of land and have one house/building for the kitchen and common areas, and put up a bunch of little one-room cabins ("Unabomber" cabin-kits are cheap) for folks to sleep in. Heck, one might get lucky and find an old church-camp with all that stuff already in place.

Probably there are enough well-off trans-folks around who'd want to spend vacation time in a totally trans-friendly environment that it might just support itself as a trans-retreat center. Those folks might also be very keen to support it with donations if the place took in down-and-out transfolks and helped them. Certain liberal organizations that try to prevent homelessness and prostitution might also be willing to donate if the down-and-out were welcomed, since homelessness and prostitution are frequent landing places for transpeople who have nowhere to go and no job prospects. It could also host 'sensitivity training' type retreats for businesses and could do a great job at that 'cause the people being trained in sensitivity would be exposed to many different transpeople all the time they were there, instead of one or two inaccessable lecturers.

I don't imagine a lot of transpeople want to become farmers, but I've noticed that specialty wools can be a profitable venture, and alpacas and sheep can be raised on lands that aren't much good for anything else. That might balance out for the kind of people who'd be keen to live on such a place. Shearing in the spring, retreat-hosting all summer and autumn, spend the winter washing, carding, spinning and packing wool for sale.

That was nicely done, Doc.

Another activity for colony support could be tech work.  Put a few satellite dishes up and design websites or take database keeping jobs and stuff like that.

I wish I had some bread.

I can make the commercials and 'come visit us' videos.

And do documentaries on the place.  And I can train horses that have been broken to ride to be resold for physiotherapy purposes?

Yes.

If I was single, I'd sell my house to get started on this.  Life with a purpose that doesn't make me want to vomit.  I love you people.  :)
