So, is it a cop out to come out via email to adult children? I have three of them (early to mid 20s) and honestly, with their schedules, it's hard to get them all in the same place at the same time. I also think I express myself better in writing (I have the email ready to go) and by sending out emails I can address their questions and concerns individually as they read and react to the email. I did this to my boss (who is making me tell my coworkers in person), my childhood friend, and mother of my 14 year old. All were okay with the methodology.

After the kids, my mom (72) is the last one. She's kind of a hell and brimstone Dutch German Catholic so I'm not sure how she'll react. The good news is that the leader of her Bible Study Group has a transgendered child (FtM), who is a good friend of mine and someone she has known for years.

And advice would be greatly appreciated. Thinking about sending the email out tonight.

I would say E-mail is OK if it is your strong point. It would eliminate the awkward silence part of the evening. Go with your strong point. :)
