I have only have been on a low dose of spironolactone for two weeks.  My instructions from my primary care was to monitor blood pressure for three weeks and then come in for lab work.  The last 4 days my blood pressure has dropped significantly.  I called my provider and she wants me to cut spiro in half.  I take blood pressure medicine before starting spiro.  My question is,  if one already has high blood pressure and spiro makes it too low,  what next?  Are there any alternative anti androgens that don't act as a diuretic and bring blood pressure down?  I don't want stop before I'm just getting started.  Some of the older girls might have high blood pressure like I do?  Please share your expierence.

Jamie,  it's was controlled with my lisinopril medication, in the normal range.  It slowly went down to below 100 for both systolic and diastolic readings for the last 4 days.  It's about 86/70 and will probably slowly go up since my provider cut my low dose in half.  What do you do when you already take blood pressure medicine and spiro makes it too low?  I suggested cutting my blood pressure medication in half but she wanted me to cut the spiro lower.  Of course I followed her instructions.

Ooo, when I started lisinopril I had to stop spironolactone.  Adverse drug interaction.

Perhaps you could get another ACE inhibitor.

Other anti-androgens include cyproterone acetate (Androcur) not available in the US, bicalutamide (Casodex), LhRh analogues/agonists (Lupron, Zoladex, Synarel) or if you take enough estrogen non-orally, then that alone will reduce testosterone.

I feel you pain I have cut my spiro to a dose that isn't really effective now because of low blood pressure, right now my plan is to switch to casodex.

That s good to know since my low dose won't be affective either.  Hopefully my provider will approve if blood pressure is still to low, which I think it still wll be in two weeks.
