So my current therapist has been solid with my gender issues but when it is coming to my depression I have too many mixed feelings about her. I would love to have another therapist but I also need one who specializes with trans people. I live on Long Island and I know of no one else, going into NYC isn't an option.

Well depression has a huge tie to transition. Once you get to the point of transition happiness your depression will fade also.

So work on getting to the happy spot in your life.

HRT killed my depression almost instantly. Like Mind is Quiet said, they are often tied together.  :)

She's a therapist who can't deal with depression? Does she simply avoid talking about it when you bring it up or does she try to be supportive and just not manage the way you need her too? Do you feel the depression is related to gender issues, your transition or something else entirely?

Anyway, sorry, not in NY so can't help you find another.

She is very supportive but I'm finding she hasn't been treating me. We talk a lot about my problems and such but I feel like I have no coping skills currently. I need someone who is compassionate who can help me develop coping skills and find help outside of therapy. She is being very goal oriented and telling me what to do when I don't need that. I need help healing from my depression and none of that is helping me address my various issues. I do need to see her so I can get my letters for SRS next year. Also my depression has nothing to do with transition as I am happy and comfortable with my body. My depression stems from feelings of abandonment and lack of physical affection.

For depression try the surprisingly inexpensive and surprisingly effective (for as many people as not) book Mind Over Mood ISBN 0898621283 about USD14
It's a workbook so you need a new copy so you can write on the pages. (not library or used)

If i can ask, what are the feelings of abandonment you have that make you depressed

Also is the fact of the abandoment making the lack of physical affection?

Hard to offer a lot of help with out understanding the whole picture.

I've lost a lot of friends over the years as they would bully me, my parents were always emotionally and physically distant from me. I've never had a lasting friendship or even family as I didn't get along with anyone in my "family". The main thing is I don't know what to do with my therapy situation.

One of the first, and most important things, the key perhaps to happiness, is falling in love with yourself, being happy with just who YOU are. Once you achieve that, the other pieces will start to fall into place by themselves.
