Mine are completely different. I hate my birth name because it's based on two things I have no identification with whatsoever and it made me cringe whenever anyone used it. Still does.

Both start with C. I just stuck with the letter so it'd be easier I guess.

I know how you feel. I have an intense dislike of my birth name and I do not want anything that resembles it. I'm not completely sold on the name I'm working with atm.... More trying it on... but at least it doesn't give me that uncomfortable shudder I get when someone calls me the name on my birth certificate....

Was going to go with the name I was supposed to get at birth, but... oddly enough, it's very close to my BROTHER'S name....  I guess my parents gave up on having a baby girl by the time he came along and gave my name (or a close approximation) to him... Feel kinda cheated, tbh...  :-\

My birth name started with a "K" and my chosen name also starts with a "K".

My birth name started with a K and my middle name was James.

For my chosen middle name is a feminine version of my birth name. I wanted to recognize my past in some way because there is really no escaping it.

The three names also flow well together.

I went from KJM to EKM. The only annoying thing is that I use my initials in one of my email addresses and my damn iPhone keeps autocorrecting it to elm.

Also a lot every now and then someone thinks my name is spelled Aaron. It screws with my confidence a bit, but apparently it happens to a lot of cis Erins as well.

My birth name starts with an M.  I'm still debating what my name should be, and want my mother to have a say.  Right now, I'm leaning towards another M name, but my mother was planning on naming me either Kerry or Katherine if I was born right, so they are under consideration as well.  For some reason, though, I feel compelled to stay in the M camp.  Just wish I knew what name said LTL, lol.

My birth name started with an s and I have no real reason why I chose Christine other than it feels right.  I am hoping someday to be able to use it all the time.
As Brett Michaels said Every Night Has its Dawn :)

My birth name started with a P, but my chosen name starts with an S. I chose my name after the first trans guy I ever met and it's far from my birth name. I didn't even keep the same middle initial either, instead choosing to take my father's middle name.

My birth name started with a D.  I am still sorting what to pick for a name but so fall all of them start with E or J so I will not end up with the same initials.  That doesn't really matter to me.

My legal name at birth started with J. My name's Violet now.

One day, a while after I told my best friend I'm a trans lady, he asked what my name was. The question stumped me for a few weeks, then one morning I woke up, asked myself what my name was, and "Violet" was floating in my mind like it had always been there.

I have no desire to keep the same initials. I mean, the time I spent being called by the wrong name is going to stay with me in memory. I see no reason to make my name a constant reminder of it.

Ev

My birthname started with an R.  There is a feminine variant/nickname for it, but it still sounds the same as the masculine as it simply swaps the "y" for an "i."  So, in the spoken realm, it sounds the same.

I was a "Jr." and my father was abusive to me, so every time I hear my name I hear his.  Talk about a constant emotional trigger!  I want NO part of that name any more because as it is easier to remove a thorn from the side than it is to try and tough it out.

My new name starts with E for first, middle, and last names.  "Ev" means "age" or "era" in Greek I believe.  I am a very symbolic person and have a hard time picking a name just to pick a name.  A lot of thought goes into this for me.  So each name starts with this prefix (ev) to state a particular "age" of my life.

Since we are all conceived female/X, I chose the last name "Eve" after the archetypical first woman.  I have spent 32 years as a biological male so my middle name is "Evan."  Now I am returning to the feminine, and chose the first name "Evelyn" because it is what most people will be calling me by.  (Ev or Evie also works.)  Since the whole world isn't going to know I was a male, "Evan" is hidden unless it is asked for as most people don't ask about people's middle names unless they REALLY want to get to know them.  In other circles "ev" means "good" or "well" which I can also fudge a little to fit a personal meaning if I had to.

I also don't mind being called "Ev" because it aknowledges all 3 eras of my life and my adrogynous nature, which is who I am.
