I was really scared too. Being on female hormones has been an amazing experience, though, with almost no downside. I'm really glad I went ahead with it.

I understand where you are coming from and I feel for your situation. There iare parallel paths you can take to start the process while you are waiting for the call from Edmonton as there is other methods and more people in the system to help in conjunction with Dr. Warnekee. Having met Dr. Warnekee he is the nicest person and so supportive that I cannot think of him as a gate keeper type of person. His wait times are long however once you are there the Trust and Support he gives is wonderful and disarming.

Waiting can be such hell and the urgency behind this can be absolutely crushing.

What Erica said is absolutely right on. I wouldn't think of the Edmonton doctors as a wall (their wait list is another story). The term Gatekeeper couldn't be further from the truth.  From my experience with one (and hearing about the other), they are more facilitators. They do take you at your word and will provide you with what you need in terms of referrals or letters.

As for the referral to the Calgary endocrinologist, there are GP's in Calgary who will prescribe HRT. All is not lost yet.

I'm glad that things are looking better for you today, and I know what you mean by changes in plans never sitting well.

I guess that's why I always have this compulsion to know my odds and have a plan B, and C, and D, and. . .
