Danielle,
Ellie is pretty much spot on. I began HRT twenty months ago. Two and a half years ago, when I finally could go no further pretending to be a man and knew I had to do something or wither into something very sad or very dead, my total cholesterol was 225, I weighed 195 lbs (88.4 kg), and I had a BMI of 29. Fasting blood sugar wasn't too awful, but over 100. Once I acknowledged in my heart who I authentically was, I was able to begin practicing the regimen Ellie suggests. I'm now jogging 5k most days, eating balanced but small portioned foods, and use absolutely no drugs or alcohol. My doc put me on 20mg of simvastatin daily and all my numbers are good Cholesterol 150, Wt 153 lbs (69.4kg), blood Sugar 92.
That said I'm not and never was homeless, which makes everything infinitely harder. I grieve for your brother. I had a brother murdered in Little Rock 40 years ago and I still weep for him. If you need to talk, let me know.
I'm glad you are starting this journey, there are friends to be made and lessons offered. All for free and all with love.
