A TRANSSEXUAL is taking on the Howard Government in a bid to be acknowledged as a woman named Stefanie, not a man named Stephen.

Stefanie Imbruglia - a first cousin of pop star Natalie Imbruglia - is fighting a recent law change that forbids her identifying herself as female on her passport.

And I still do. She's a great singer with fabulous looks. Favourite track: Shiver

I never realised Stefanie was actually related to Natalie. She wrote a really great article that was published in the Australian magazine Polare, about coming out in the workplace, it was published last year. I found it so helpful back then, I kind of owe her one :).

I think its horrible the way the government are treating her, all that crap about "not having the authority to change passport details" when they have been doing it for years previously. I'm glad this is actually getting some coverage in the media here now, even if it is just because she's related to a celebrity, this arbitrary change is going to affect a lot of TS people in this country, seeing as our choices in surgeons for SRS are pretty limited if we don't want to travel overseas. Why the government feels justified in making things even harder is completely beyond me. Hopefully some people will take notice now.

I can provide a link to Stefanie's website, if anyone wants it (not sure if I'm allowed to post it or not here?)
