After all the fuss with rebooking doctors etc and waiting a few extra weeks, I finally had my first shot today! It's such a relief and I can't wait to start documenting my changes and seeing them!

I do have a few concerns though! Basically I was told by Dr Curtis that the shot should be administered slowly to avoid it coming back out, however my nurse didn't really do it slow at all, and while I was at work in the restroom I noticed that the injection site was bleeding which is ok I suppose, I expect most injections to bleed a little. But around the blood stain on the back of my boxers was another stain and it was about an inch also big, it looks like quite a lot, I'm worried that some of the T may have come out of the injection site. Will this be a problem until my next shot? I'm worried it won't have the effect it should if not all of it went into my body.

The nurse has experience and probably did an ok job. Injection sites bleed especially when you're putting a glob of liquid into a muscle. Some testosterone might have leaked but if your levels are good at the end of the day thats what really matters. If it bled through a band aid and left a mark on your boxers I would mention it to your doctor next time you see him.

It's possible that a small vein got nicked. I've had times where I never bleed more that a tiny drop or times when it's a little more. If its a lot you may want to mention it to the doctor. That being said my first injection done by the nurse was the same. There was a little t leaking but my nurse said its normal. I just leave the needle in for an extra five seconds before pulling it out to avoid the leaking. When you do it yourself you will probably find that you do it slower than the nurse did. It takes me about five minutes total to do the whole deal. Unless I get sweaty hands which does still happen after two years. Lol.

Speaking of which, it's shot day. I need to get off my couch.

Congrats on getting your first shot!

I was taught by a nurse who told me to jab the (inch and a half) needle into my leg like a dart and press firmly. Yeah, okay lady, that's not terrifying at all. :P Did you put a band-aid over it? I get a small amount of leakage but nothing significant. I mean, you did just jab a piece of metal into your flesh.

Thanks guy, and no I didn't put a band aid on it :( I did ask for one because I was worried it might come out, she said that it won't and insisted I wouldn't need one. I guess I'm only freaked out because it did come after she said it wouldn't. I think I will take one next time and put it on anyway though x.x would like to keep as much T in me as possible.

I dunno how it works for other people in the UK but I was told that I wasn't allowed to inject it myself, just as well I'm probably too chicken anyway lol be there all day before I get any T in me.

Congrats!  :)

I wouldn't worry too much about the speed of the injection: I have mine done by a senior nurse at my GP's surgery, and she has 22 patients who get the same shot so she's very experienced. She says that if the vial has been warmed up in advance it should take about 30 seconds to dispense the whole thing, but if it's cold it takes up to 2 minutes. That's a top tip, by the way: always warm the vial up to body temperature before giving it to the nurse - it'll hurt less and it'll go in more quickly. Also, if you can, make sure you take two vials of Nebido in with you. The nurse has to aspirate the needle before she injects the shot, and if she hits a vein she has to abandon the whole thing. That second vial would mean that you could still get your shot. (I take one vial out of the box and warm it up, and leave the other vial in its box in my car, just in case).

You say there was another stain around the blood stain on your boxers: what kind of stain? Was it blood, or did it look like an oily patch? Nebido is a thick, oily substance, so if it looked like you'd spilled cooking oil on your boxers, you might want to ring Dr Curtis and ask his advice. However, it doesn't normally come out of the injection site because it's injected deep into the gluteal muscle.

And no, you're not allowed to inject it yourself; that's part of the licensing conditions for Nebido. It has to be administered by a trained medical professional and you have to hang around in the surgery for at least 5 minutes after your injection, because there's a small risk of Pulmonary Oil Embolism.

Didn't know about the warming the vial up part! Thank you I will do that next time, hopefully it was warm enough anyway as I was waiting right next to the radiator when I went in. The stain was definitely oily, had a faint yellow colour to it when it dried. Is it best to stay stood up when you get it injected or sit down and massage in the injection to help it disperse? I'll try and take in two vials too but I'm not sure if that means I'll have to get my prescription changed so the chemist can give me two vials, I'll have to ask them D:

I put it in my leg and generally get a drop or two of blood back, but I did my shot today and lost enough blood to paint my leg, my hands, and the floor...  Did the same thing a month ago.  It happens.

Oh god lol I'm glad we're not allowed to inject ourselves then, not fond of needles as it is, I'd go mental if I jabbed myself and blood started shooting out

I so sorry to tell you this, but Nebido is oily and has a faint yellow colour to it, so there is a possibility that you didn't get the entire dose. :(

I recommend ringing Dr Curtis: let him know what's happened and ask for his advice. And if you have any doubts about the nurse who injected you yesterday, ask for a different nurse next time who has experience of giving deep-gluteal, intramuscular injections. My GP insisted on me using a senior nurse, because apparently their more junior nurses aren't experienced enough to administer this type of shot.

You don't need to massage the injection site to help it disperse: Nebido is a slow-release formulation that gradually disperses over a three-month period, so there wouldn't be any point in massaging it. As for your position, it depends on how you feel comfortable. At my surgery, the nurse either gets you to bend forward holding onto a table, or to lie face-down on an examination table. But I never stand upright because my muscles need to be relaxed. I also swap which side I get injected in each time, to give my muscle a rest.

This depends on your prescribing doctor, but I asked my doctor to write a prescription for 12 months' worth so that I could fill it in one go. Then I got an NHS Pre-Payment Certificate (any pharmacy can tell you how to do this) which cost me less than £30, and got all of them on that certificate. When I get down to my last two vials, I'll ask my GP for a repeat prescription.

Whynaut

This is just my take on it, but you really shouldn't be worried.

Think about working with any other oil, such as oil you'd cook with. The smallest drop of oil, like the tip of a needle, will spread over a large area. It's just a property of oil. It's likely you bled just a tiny bit and some of the T came back out with it. But it could have been the smallest fraction of a mL and still made a large mark on your boxers. That's just how oils work.

It's entirely reasonable to bring it up to your doctor, but I wouldn't worry about it in the mean time. I know it seems like every little drop of T is precious, but it isn't going to make a difference in the grand scheme of things. c:

Thanks guys ^^ I will ask Dr Curtis just to be sure but I feel a little more at peace with it, I doubt the whole thing came back out anyway and Whynaut is right about oils spreading bigger than normal. I don't think I'll be seeing the same nurse next time but if I am I'll tell her what happened so maybe she can take the needle out slower or something :) if I get a new nurse I'll tell her to do it slower to avoid this happening again too.

I've had different injections and the stupid nurse just let it run onto my pants instead of wiping it up real quick. Now I have to warn the nurses before every shot I get.
