I tried a home electrolysis machine last year & I thought it was a waste of money, it wasn't an extremely expensive one but it was close to useless for me.

After doing a lot of research on these things as well as the Tria laser hair removal is that it's good for doing touch ups here and there, but as a way to save money if you're MTF.... not so much. Especially for somebody who is as abysmally hairy as myself.

Hi! I've got a one touch and I've modified it to take ballet pro needles and to allow me to use a wet sponge/rag to turn it on instead of using that metal part on the stylus.

While the machine works, it just doesn't work well. It can really take some time.

Also, make sure to read as much on electrolysis as you can so you know how to properly do it and not burn your skin. It is easy to burn your skin with the original needles that come with the one touch. They are very wide in diameter, best to stick to the big hairs.

Also you'll want a makeup mirror with the lights and the 5x magnification. Being able to place the needle in the follicle properly is the biggest trick. It's like a skill that you can get better at.

I have been trying for some time to figure out hair removal. I would ideally like to do it myself, but I worry about messing up a pretty face. And I love to wear skirts and dresses so I don't want to risk botching my legs.

But I hate body hair!! Gross! Anyone have any blogs or "journals" about their experience? I want to get rid of it all! I wonder how much it would cost me here?

Have you used a "F shank" or a one or two piece needle?

I am a bit scared of the normal needle that comes with the one piece, i have seen it leave marks on the skin of several people. Yet getting a 2nd hand "pro" machine is not that easy in Europe...

so here's the needle i bought:

Ballet Sterile Stainless $ 25.60 Steel Disposable Needles F2 Regular Shank - Box/50 (from Texas Electrolysis Supply)

i experimented with it, "rigged" it up. a bit of crimping on the shaft that you put the needles in, and an old needle inside to keep the new one in the right position is what i ended up with. i got rid of the plastic tip, and have some paper or something stuffed inside to keep the needle in place.

also, online people talk about rigging the trigger mechanism to a wet sponge. I use a wet piece of rag (saltwater) in a jar lid. you pretty much open up the machine, figure out which wire runs to the contact plate, and run a new wire that goes into your sponge/rag. once i find my camera cable i can post pics, but i've got little hope for that.

it's working great. it's easier for me to do my right side, so it's pretty clear. i've been doing it about a year now, not very often. it does make red dots. maybe it's my technique of making sure they're dead. personally, i'd rather have red dots for a week than have a hair come back.

I live in Europe where it is a bit harder to find a good 2nd hand electrolysis machine, so this would be a good alternative hopefully. I got a 8x magnifying mirror too with lighting. I don't expect I can reach every spot on my face but I will see how it goes.
