Just wanted to post that it looks like the Gender Centre in Sydney (Australia) is staring a new group for young women.

If you're interested have a look at their website www.gendercentre.org.au and look under events.
It looks like it will be a regular group which sounds nice too.

I'm not involved in organising it or anything, just want to let people know and maybe meet a few new faces :)
See you there!

Hey Rach,

I'm shiney :) Thanks for posting this up. I'm new here and reaching out about all this is pretty new to me. I didn't feel ready to come to the group just yet, but i am looking to get talking to some people.

So..what did i miss :P What was the meetup like? What can i expect if i work up the nerve to come to one?

It'd be great to get to know some people nearby that i can open up to.

Any pointers would be great :)

Take care,

shiney

Seems I'm too old for the young group, and too young for their older ladies group!!  :P

Hmm... so they've got three groups - 18-30, over 55s and the rest are lumped in the women's group, so there's the group for you Grace!

I've never actually set foot in the Gender Centre in spite of being aware of my trans issues for as long as I can remember.

Hi Luna Nyan! :)

I figured the same thing, the women's group seems like the closest one.

I'm going to go down and see what its like. I really want to meet people on the same path, make some friends, get some pointers that sort of thing.

How's your trans journey been like, if its okay to ask? :)

Their next meeting is unfortunately on the same time as my endo appointment. I have been to The Gender Centre a fair bit over this last year, I've personally found them very helpful although others have been less glowing in their assessment...your mileage may very I suppose!

Hahaha!  A loaded question!
A timeline probably would give the best answer.
Age 6 - first awareness, wishing to be a girl.
Age 14 - first awareness that there were others out there.  A good weekend article on Carlotta and Les Girls gave me first inkling something could be done.
Age 21-22 - first attempt at getting to therapy, had one session, the psych told me to go off and boink someone and then get back to him.  I never went back.
Age 26-27 - good therapy.  Figured I was gender neutral, tending feminine.  Electro done and completed.  Got a letter clearing me for HRT, didn't do anything with it.

Now close to 40, started low dose HRT 2 years ago, didn't go back to therapy prior.  My treating GP and endo reckon that I know what I'm getting myself into.  No intention to transition - HRT is to reduce the noise and prevent male middle age changes from occurring.

That's my life in a nutshell. :d

Wow Luna

I can't believe the hide of that psych, they are the people i'm going to avoid!! how unprofessional!

Excuse my ignorance :/ i'm still getting used to there being such a rich variety in gender, what does gender neutral mean to you and what is a gender neutral life like?

and well done answeriong the loaded question lol :P haha

Basically it means for me, I can function either as male or female, but not in-between.  I would probably be more comfortable as a woman, but the social and financial cost outweighs what benefits I may get from transition.  The other issue for me is that as type A as I am the end result is likely to be unsatisfactory.

That may change with time, I may decide at a future date that I'll go the whole hog and put a post up here saying I was an idiot for delaying.   But that's future Luna's problem.  Looking back with regret has no positive bearing for the present or future unless it's a lesson learnt and applied.

Oh, and I don't mean to disparage what can be achieved right now, it's pretty amazing, but I want MOAR!

...because boinking cures everything apparently. ??? I'm so glad I never got that kind of treatment, not even back in 1989!

The kicker was that the psych in question was supposedly well regarded in the community.  I guess at the time there weren't too many young transitioners and that he wanted me to have more life experience before talking to him again.  Even so, it felt like a dismissal, and this was back in the late 1990s.

In a twisted way, he did help, but not in the way I wanted or he intended.

Thanks for that Luna. When i first started looking into all this i thought i was Androgynous, tending female. Now i'm feeling more and more trans. If i was a cis girl ithink i'd be the tomgirl type who likes to get girly every now and then. I just feel that the female body is more suited to my personality and how i want to present myself and experience life.I would rather be a tomgirl than a girly boy. Originally i thought i would love it if i could trans-mutate from boy to girl as i pleased. I couldn't find a way that could be a reality right now though :P Besides further introspection revealed I more all round happy in my feminine gender, the guy side only really presents strongly when i get protective of someone, or if i get defensive, its generally angry and i don't like that at all.

We can only make decisions based on the information we have available to us right now. Then we just for it. Keep doing what is best for you now Luna, it's all that matters :)

Finally made it along to this group this week. A great bunch of girls happy to support a nervous first-time-out person like me.
If anyone wants to chat I'd love that as I'm still very much finding my way.
