Officially they have been charged under Islamic Sharia law with "addressing each other as women and dressing themselves as women." If convicted they could get up to 30 cane lashes and 1 year in prison. Fortunately for them it appears they have dodged sodomy/homosexuality charges which carry the much stiffer penalty of death by stoning.

Northern Nigeria is and the Christians can be found in the South. That is according to a Nigerian coworker (who happens to be visiting over there right now). She has been wonderful during my transition at work, very supportive.

death by stoneing, being thrown off a cliff or roof, or having a stone wall toppled on them...
although, transexuality isnt outlawed under shiria law, transvestities and crossdressers are viewed as males, so prohibited from such things.
a transexual woman is just that according to shiria law
