So I have no idea how to start moving my hair towards more feminine aesthetic, and the only really solid idea that I have is that I want sort of a Brody Dalle sort of thing, but right now, I just don't know what I can do to start girling up my mohawk, for lack of a better phrase, haha. I wanna keep it, but there's little details I just don't know how to modify, like the sideburns, where they end and what you do with them, and back of my neck and stuff.

Anyone have any suggestions here? These are where I'm at right now, and yes there's not a thing girly about me right now but I'm out of shaving cream and broke, and seeing as how Arizona is evil and all I'm not even thinking of trying to present in public for quite a bit so's I don't end up all murdered. But I digress :P

Any suggestions or tips, or haircut ideas that would work? I'm pretty much at a total loss for all this XD

Monique

well I don't see why you cant let it grow out if you don't have a job that requires it to be short like my old job in florida did, I tried to grow my hair out but I got sent home so many times because I need to get a hair cut and its hard to a girl when you work at a supermarket that makes you have to get a haircut. if you have a job like that, it wil be very difficult since you can get in trouble it sucks, but im unemployed now so ive been trying to grow my hair out but there are girls with short hair too so you don't need to have long hair if u don't want, you can have it at medium length and just style it, there are plenty of styles for woman with med to short hair so its not nessarily a bad thing, when u go to a hairdresser just ask them to let them show u the different styles that u can do when you want to. all I got sorry I couldn't be more informative but im still new to it also but know a lil of it. anyway hopefully everything works out for you.
tu sei quello che sei, essere felici nella vostra vita e vivere la vostra vita come volete, questo è il mio consiglio per chiunque. :D

Oh, I'm definitely gonna keep the short hair. Just not sure what type of short hair will really work for me. Still mostly thinking the Brody Dalle hawk, but I have a pretty limited knowledge of styles, so if anyone has tips I'm all ears.

Christine167

I think you can pull it off. You have a similar facial shape to Brodie Dalle. Or at least from what I can tell from a quick google of her.

But look at the shape that is presented of her head.

And then check out yours. See the V shape that the beard and almost flat top you have gives? I'm pretty sure that if you shaved the beard and let the top grow just a bit longer so that it weighs itself down into a more rounded shape that you will have the basics there. She also does long front bangs so if that's your thing then go for it.

I had shorter hair than you. I opted for Emma Hewitt style pixie cuts. You have the long hair on top, so style it forward and it's way more female.

KatVonDoom

I was holding it up so my hairline would be clear, I agree fully about letting it fall forward. I can almost trick it into thinking it's bangs sometimes, which gives me hope :)

And I definitely agree about the shaving, haha. Just...between jobs at the moment, don't have spare cash for shaving cream and the groupon laser deals are somewhat out of my current non-existent range. And my current plan is to just kinda...stay in boy mode until it's more work than being me. I've got a good immediate network, but the general environment here is not as friendly. I can pull off gay boy well enough for the Brody hair luckily, since it may not be trans-friendly, but surprisingly they're pretty okay with us queers.

Thanks a bunch! Definitely good tips. I'm only a week on hrt, so i know I've got time to grow my hair out a bit before my face (hopefully!!) loses these jagged angles :P

You could try using hair conditioner for the beard to shave with.. moisturizes too.. try not to use soap tho, dries the skin too much.  :-X

Shaving. Ok. 60 years living (sort of) as a man, I guess I know a few things about shaving. Damn :(

o You can use face soap if you have no cream.
o When you have some money, get a shaving brush and a piece of shaving soap. It goes a lot farther than the stuff in a can.
o Find a safety razor somewhere (online?) The blades are incredibly cheap compared to disposables or cartridges and you get more precise control.

As regards your sideburns, shave up (up) to the point where the pinna of your ear attaches to your head.

Thaaaank you :) Argghh, these tiny little details are bloody difficult! I'm trying to just start incorporating lots of tiny things right now, and then start going for larger steps when my edges have been filed down a bit.

And I thank you all for the shaving tips, but I've generally got that covered, I've just been kinda enjoying how fuzzy and soft and all-around pleasant it is for the moment, since my hair took to estrogen like...something that, um... takes to something exceptionally well, and started getting softer and smoother like, two days in. Knowing that I'm a paycheck or two away from laser makes me able to tolerate much more at the moment :P

KatVonDoom

And it's a paycheck or two away because I totally got a job today dishwashing at this pizza place and I can keep my mohawk and paint my nails and wear eyeliner and it's awwweeeeesome!

Congrats on the new job. :icon_bunch: As for laser it takes several sessions so if you can start saving here and there out of each paycheck.

Oh, I know, but I can at least get started on it, and just knowing that steps are being taken is enough to hold the dysphoria at bay :P

And damn, groupon deals are awesome.

I agree, every little bit seems to make all the difference.

Keep us posted, I think this alt look can be quite hawt on a girl; I believe you have an excellent foundation to build from and could most definitely pull it off. I am excited to see your progression!
Cheers!

Not related to the topic, but I just wanted to say that I think your eyes have a soft, feminine quality to them. They're really attractive. :)

Thank you :)  I've always been very proud of my eyelashes, except for when I'd go to the salon with my mom and have to wait for her to get done, whilst a dozen old ladies gathered around to coo at how adorable of a little boy (grrrrrr!) I was, wit' dem eyes :P. Bleurgh. Haha.

Not to sound totally full of myself XD

And really, Anna, you think so? :) My boyfriend is convinced that when my face fills in more I'ma look like girl Starbuck. If that happens, I would be quite okay with that. I...am not quite as optimistic, lol :P Though I've got the perfect facial structure to play a kickass Hedwig, so I'm quite okay with it :D

Same here! My suuuper long eyelashes have always given me so much trouble, but I never dare admit to anyone that I secretly loved them! That and my dimples, which have sadly muted with time...

Oh I definitely agree! and you could certainly do worse than to echo Starbuck.

You have this tough, and yet at the same time soft quality. You have a great hairline (suuuper jealous) and none of you facial structure screams boy, and yet there is this underlying strength. And then those eyes. Those eyes will make anyone melt. Perfect for that no-nonsense, sexy, tough but still somehow feminine woman.

Now I wish I could give you advice on how to go about capitalizing on all of this but I am pretty new to the game here myself.

(As a side note, I found it funny that when I mistyped definitely, Chorme suggested that I meant effeminately )
Cheers!

  ;D   ;D there isn't a smiley for how wide I'm beaming right now, thank you! Kind of a really tough day, and really needed to hear something like that. No idea how I'd begin taking advantage either, but only two weeks on hormones (breast buds huuuuurt, but ohmygod I'm getting breasts!!) so my face has a bit to go before I can really get any clear idea of how much the subtle changes will effect things, and I have to keep reminding myself that to keep from going soooo crazy with impatience :P

And I'm totally gonna be Tank Girl for Halloween this year :D It'll be right around six months on hormones for me, what better way to celebrate than with the costume I've been dying to wear for 16 years?  :D

Ms Grace

When you get to laser/electro, the technician should be able to take care of the sideburns issue for you - my electro has feathered the hair line alongside my ears to exactly where it would be for most cis women. Usually women have no hair on the back of the neck, since it's finer hair a bit of waxing should deal with it.

Hi Ms Grace. Nice to know cis girls don't have hair on the backs of their necks -neither do I. I just gave my face a full laser and IPL treatment this morning and my face is still as smooth as a baby's behind. Looks like I did considerable damage to those grays this time. As for sideburns I never had any either. I attribute these blessings to either my being Native American, or the fact I'm xxy. I suppose  we're all different in our needs in these areas. If your having it done professionally you've nothing to worry about. Great advice Ms. Grace. :icon_bunch:
