Hi everyone I am trying to find a therapist in south Australia so I can start my transition I have been to see a few doctors but with no results, I am a 41 yo female in a mans body I have been struggling with this for years on my own and have been close to suiside several times. Over the last couple of years I have been working on accepting who I really am and preparing myself both mentally and physically for the start of my transition only to hit a brick wall with finding therapists who deal with transsexuals I even went to my gp to ask for a referral only to get the comment " your a bit out of place " so at the moment feeling a bit down.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome Emily

I think I know just the person for you to talk too. Try Cindy as she will be able to assist on this.

Hi Emily,

I have sent you a pm.

Lots of cute ladies, and guys, in Adelaide.

And therapy is pretty easy, just a 3 month waiting list. Sooner you start sooner the result.

Hi Emily, hope you're doing well with therapy! :)

A question for Cindy, (as I don't think I can pm yet)... Regarding the 3 month waiting list... It's not for psychologists, right? I have a practioner in mind in Adelaide but am unsure if I should use names outside of a pm.

I've no information on individual practitioners. The SA gender dysphoria unit is trying to get its waiting list down to a couple of months. I was told this is now a couple of months for new referrals and reducing as they manage their list but I can only give information I have heard, and my information may not be accurate. I have been told that new referrals have gone through the roof, which is what is causing the problem. The access to endocrinologists is also a problem due to the Law act that they have to operate under, unique to SA, sadly.

You can email me if you wish.

Congratz you sorted this out !

I've been seeing Dr.Rosemary Jones for 5-6 years now, had to see Dr.Robert Lyons (a psychiatrist) first before I could start seeing Dr.Jones as a regular patient (although I had been on hormone since i was 19)

Good luck ! :)

Hi Emily! Hope all is going well! ;)

I just got booked in my first appointment with Dr Lyons in September. Seems like an eternity away. I've been been seeing my psychologist weekly for the last two months. My wife is also separately seeing another psychologist. We are pretty strained, but hanging in there...so far.

I'm going on antidepressants in the next day or two for the first time in my life. Trying to be pragmatic about it.

(Cindy, I had sent you and email to an address, not sure if you got it. ;) )

Take care.
