Don't apply for any more loans for a while.
If it's one good thing that came out of marriage, other than my son, it's that my wife taught me how to get and keep a great credit score.
Rule 1
The only quick way to get a good score is to marry it. Seriously my score jumped up and my wife's dropped down when we got married.
Rule 2
Don't apply for a loan unless you are going to buy something with it soonish. Like within a month or two.
Rule 3
Like the others have said start small. Try a credit union rather than a bank and let them help guide you. Don't appear desperate over it. Ask what you need to do before applying and read everything and then have someone else read it because you want a good interest rate but when you start it all looks crappy.
Rule 4
Revolving Credit: keep it small and don't let them give you a bigger limit than what you can pay off.
Rule 5
Loans- mortgages, car loans, etc they help your credit score they are the bread and butter of your score. Even if someone helps by consigning.
Rule 6
Stay at the same job for years if you can. And never quit without having another job to go to. Doesn't directly affect your score but periods of unemployment or a string of short term jobs don't make credit suppliers happy to see you regardless of how cute you are.
Tips:
If you dad or mom or someone else will help you maybe cosign on something. Ask the credit union/bank about that. And relax this will happen.
Teela you can do this. I know you can. I had a no score before as a twenty something too and within 2 years I bought a house, paid off a cara d had good credit (730 when I got married). That's enough to get you a good loan with low interest for everything that you need.
