Both actually. Western culture is an order of magnitude more egalitarian and diverse than it was even back in the 70's or 80's.

I like it.  I don't have the body to just walk/jog/bike ect. shirtless around town, but I don't hesitate at the beach and in pools.  If someone takes issue with my scars then let them.  I didn't get surgery to keep feeling bad about myself =p
