So, at my high school, there's a requirement for graduation that, during English IV (Senior year English), a large community service project, or "senior project," must be done. Some have planted trees, some have done research on online bullying, some have started up a tutoring club at the school done by students, for students. I was thinking that, since there really are no LGBT support groups here, I could start one up for my senior project.

Good idea or no?

Sure. If you are out and willing to face the...  what? public exposure, and effort it requires.  A theoretical paper proposal is one thing, actually doing the work of organizing a group is another. It requires talking and dealing with... people (ewwww).  But even if its the former and you don't actually get it totally off the ground during the remainder of your time in HS, maybe it will lay the groundwork for it to grow.

Go 'fer it!

For ideas on how to get one started, check into Gay Straight Alliance groups. There are many chapters in high schools all over the USA.

@KAT, we had one of those last year, but the name changed this year to "Teaching Tolerance," and is less of a support group than a group to...teach tolerance. And tolerance of different races and religions, not just LGBTQIA. I will look them up though! Thanks!
