Thundra

Terri has been great telling me what she knows of the capital of NoCal, but I am wondering  if anyone else has any insight as to the goings on in the big Sac?  Any info anyone can give, any advice or warnings would be greatly appreciated. I plan on relocating by the end of the year, maybe sooner, so if there are things I should avoid, I'd sure like to know about them beforehand.

Thanks, and

Peace out!

I've lived and worked in Sacramento since 1980, raised two kids here, came out as a lesbian here, have recently come out as TS, and overall, I have found it a good place to be.  It has most of the amenities of big city life but still--in my opinion--retains a town-ish ambience that is friendlier and less frantically paced than the really BIG cities.  It's an hour's drive from SF, close to Tahoe, good camping, skiing if you're into that (I'm not).  There is over thirty miles of beautiful bike trail--also used by walkers and joggers--along the American River if you're into that (I am).

What kinds of things would you like to know, specifically?  I'm not sure what you mean by "things to avoid."

ROFL!!!  ;D :D  So I guess you are serious about moving, aren't you Thundra?  I don't know Sacramento too well; I have been there a few times to see the aquarium, but Gina is right, it's terribly hot there & housing prices are definitely cheaper than in San Francisco.  I wish you good luck Thundra.  Let us know how everything goes...

True, it is pretty hot here in the summer, and if you really can't stand that, you probably shouldn't live here.  This summer has been the mildest one in my memory, though, no doubt some dire and doomful effect of global warming or some godawful thing, but it has been pretty nice here for the last couple of months, hovering mostly in the mid-eighties until just the last few days, which have moved into the high nineties.  But, there's always air conditioning, and swimming, and the river.

Don't purchase a home in the flood plain.  Sacramento is the next New Orleans according to the corps of engineers.  It is the highest risk city in the nation for potential a major flood disaster due to the age and condition of the levies.

The heat isn't as bad as they say.  Many western states are considerably warmer.  I live a couple hours away in a very small community.  I hate the heat.  There are a couple of months a year that I stay inside for the most part.  The rest of the time, I'm outside most of every day.
