Well I got preliminary approval to start dutasteride (Avodart) today.  So long as my blood tests come back fine I'll start in about a week.  The doc said it would be good, not only for my thinning hair, but because I have a family history of prostate trouble.  I'm really excited and hope it works.  And since it is available in generic my insurance will cover it.

I had been on hormones for about 5 years and had great regrowth on the temples and the crown without finasteride then got sick and had to go off them for a year and I still retained most. I managed to get back on hormones late last year and the doctors in their wisdom thought I didnt need them anymore and took me off them early this year and I went straight into pregnancy mode and lactated then they stuck me on aropax which is an anti depressent which made my hair fall out fast. Not wanting to put up with this any longer I dropped those doctors and started back on hormones but had to include finasteride proscar and within 2 months I have had rapid regrowth of the hair lost and am feeling better about myself. My hair is now down to my shoulders and looking great and my hormone levels are back to where they were before which is also great.

I've noticed the opposite and my hair was much thicker and better condition pre-hormones....since taking HRT it had become more brittle and so have my nails and teeth...
