HRT, body hair, and tattoos...

Sincerely Tegan

I have a couple of questions regarding body hair that I'm hoping some of you ladies might be able to help me with.

If I were to go on to HRT, how much body hair loss should I expect, and in what areas? Should I expect to lose chest hair entirely? What about hands, arms, legs, and rear? What has your experience been?

Also I have several tattoos. I have a couple on my calf, a half sleeve on my upper arm, and a large one on my chest. I like my tattoos, and I don't want to damage them. If needed, could I do laser hair removal on those areas? I don't want burning, scarring, or distortion of the image. If hair removal won't work on those areas, what are my other options?

I appreciate any knowledge you have to offer. Thank you in advance for your response.

Cheers,
Tegan

I too want to know this, the hair loss part anyway, I have no tats. I'd also like to know, if I have thinning hair and/or a crappy hairline,  what will HRT do with that?

I've probably asked this already myself but I don't remember what I was told if I did.

Not sure if laser will damage the tats. I guess there's always a chance.

Hair loss might be dependent on how thick and dark it is to begin with. For instance my body hair was very light, had a tuft in the middle of my chest and under the navel. I had three, maybe four, full body waxes and now, months since the last wax regrowth has been minimal and very light. I should note my T is also very low at the moment so that is probably helping.

Depends on how long it has been thinning for and how extensive it is. If not long then you might have a good chance of restoration if you can get your T low. You might also want to try using minoxidil which is a rub in preparation, effects vary and can take up to four months before any regrowth is evident.

The laser won't "see" the hairs under dark tats.  A hair removal laser is 3-10X less intense than one used to zap tats and probably won't damage it much.

My body hair got much thinner on HRT and waxing/plucking is doinf a pretty good job at keeping it at bay.

oh yeah, that's a really good point actually - will probably remove hair from everywhere but the tat.

Well, I don't have a lot of body hair and what I do have is very light. I think I should look into getting my T level checked. My hair is turning salt and pepper and I'm only in my very early 40's and I have naturally curly hair that is terrible when it starts to grow out.

Do you have to get a script for that product or can you just buy OTC?

Minoxidil is over the counter. That's its generic name, comes in some more expensive product name brands. I believe they sell it at WalMart. I'm not in the US, got it through a pharmacy/chemist/drug store.

I'll look into that. I guess it's just wigs in the meantime.  I wish there was a pill I could take and it would just be "bye bye unwanted hair" overnight.

So, ladies, at the very least did all the chest hair go? What happens, anyway? Does it fall out, or do you get it waxed, then it doesn't grow back?

In regards to preserving the tattoos, I'll probably have to call the customer support line of any hair removal product I end up deciding to use.

Thanks,
Teg

I was cursed with a pretty hairy chest that I had to shave every day at first.  A lot of my chest hair fell out on its own within a few months and some of it was replaced my much finer hair.   I let it grow during the winter when I could cover it up with sweaters, waxed a couple of times and it got even finer.  There are probably a couple of hundred fine ones left that keep coming back, and I need to tweeze about a dozen stubby ones a day right now in a well-lit bathroom to keep it clear.  I'm hoping that after the orchi that they never come back.
