Any blondes? (Facial hair question)

Hey guys.

I have a facial hair question. So, for the last two years I have had a job where I had to shave. No men at my work were allowed facial hair aside from the owner of the company. Anyway, it wasn't ever a big deal because I just figured I could grow it out when I left.

I've left the job now temporarily and I wanted to finally grow some facial hair. I was happy that after a week I have a goatee. But, I'm a blonde and apparently my facial hair likes being blonde. It's not too visible but I love having it. For any guys here who are blonde, how long does it take before it's visible growth wise? All the men in my family have dark hair so I have no idea what to expect.

Well, you may end up like Spencer, and have a creepy flesh colored beard.

It would only be visible if you had a lot of hair. No idea on how long it could take.

It would be just my luck to have a creepy flesh colored beard.

It's so light that I imagine growing out long enough to not look patchy is gonna take me a while. I hate being the only blonde in my family...

I have a cousin who has a light blonde beard. I notice that when it first starts growing, you can't see a thing. He lets it get thick every once and awhile and after about half an inch you can really start to see it. So I guess length will help.

I've gone from blond to dark dark blond, pretty much brown. I'm not sure why--age? T? A combination? Anyway, I experimented a bit with hair color to fight the gray, and I saw that Just for Men also has a special formula for facial hair. What if you tried coloring the beard with the next darker shade? Of course, you would have to keep it up.

I'm blond too, and my facial hair is very pale and Spencer-ish... and being in my 40s, it's also going grey. I keep it to about a centimetre in length. It does help with my passing, and I think it's gorgeous. There's nothing wrong with having blond facial hair. We're so used to seeing dark beards on men that we tend to think that this is some sort of virile masculine ideal that should be attained. But that's just nonsense, and there's nothing wrong with being pale & interesting.

That having been said, the problem with naturally blond bodily & facial hair is that it is probably very similar in tone to your skin colour, and the lack of contrast between the two makes it difficult to see. Which brings me to the 'plus' side of having blond facial hair: the ol' five o'clock shadow isn't as much of a worry for us!  ;D

So the only ways to make it visible are a) grow it long and perhaps rock a Viking number, or b) change its colour.

(By the way, guys: 'blonde' and 'blond' are amongst the few gendered words in English. Blonde=female and blond=male.  ;) ).

or you can have a really cool beard like jax from sons of anarchy, its blonde

I'm also blond (had no idea it's the correct term for a male, thanks FTMDiaries) and my facial hair is really weird. Half of it is very blond and the other half darker blond. It's also patchy so I always end up shaving regularly. The hair on my had got darker in the past few months, I'm not sure if it's the T or just aging. I'm thinking of dyeing it. I had a friend who's also really blond and grew an awesome beard, I like to think mine will be similar some day lol.

I am planning on eventually growing it out, plaiting it and tying it with an engraved silver ring or perhaps a leather band. Heck, I'm pretty much short enough to be a dwarf from The Hobbit... I might as well rock their look!  ;D

Or perhaps, since it's already greying, I should go the Billy Connolly route and dye it a bright colour, such as blue or purple. That'd make it stand out.

But first I need to let my kids get used to the idea of my transition. That's proving to be a long, hard road.  :-\

I got brown hair but I only got a small amount of fuss who is very light brown and blonde and it only visuable when it start to get around 1 cm.

if you got longer bear you can colour it, but for a small fuss if you want it a bit darker you can use a eyebrow pen like this who only will put colour on the hair and not the skin.

Dirty blonde here and depends how fast your beard grows but for me close up about half a centimeter far away needs to be one centimeter or longer. And if you want it to be noticeable I recommend dyeing it, I know alot of blonds at work who will dye especially for movember.

Mine is more on the grey side. I have used Just for Men Beard and Mustache dye (but doesn't sound like you could get this in Japan, but who knows). I got a color that matches some of my hair, and think I could actually go a tiny bit darker. If you can't find that some other kind of dye might work out. The thing with this is that it comes in little tiny tubes. I still got about 3 months out of it or more. I used a smaller brush than they use in the kit and mixed tiny amts at a time. Saw a video where someone used it and it looked like he was going to putty the house with it. :)

Thanks guys.

I'm not upset at being blond so much as I am just not used to seeing it. My entire family is dark haired, and so is my husbands. Apparently I got the German and Irish background and it was only me. Every other person has the Cherokee. I'm also the only one who burns in the sun. The husband is Portuguese so he's no help. I actually like being blond but I keep looking in the mirror trying to find where all of my beard is!

I'm a dirty blond too, but my hair tends to lighten up as it grows. I think I'm at 1cm now and it's visible. It just looks patchy compared to everyone else around me. Of course, a lot if girls here apparently love the blond beard. I've been stopped for pictures a lot over the last week. I just wish I could see what everyone else!

ETA: I had no idea that blonde was a gendered word! I was always taught to spell it with an e.

My beard was very, very blond in the early stages. Now it is medium brown and fairly coarse. I despaired that my beard would ever be dark enough to stand out, but I guess I got lucky. Of course, I liked being blond, and now I'm more brown-haired. If I could tolerate the sun, I guess my head hair would lighten up as it used to do. But I burn rather dramatically after only a short time in the sun. Can't win.

IKR? That's one of the fun things about being a blond FtM: you get to drop the 'e' in more ways than one. ;)

I burn like crazy, but I can't get away from the sun. I've had lobster arms for two years running. My hair is nearing white from all the sun. I still hope that my facial hair darkens but if my arms and legs are any indicator ...

Lobster arms are a bad sign!!

I feel fortunate that when I was a child--with no real sunscreen options--my mother used to chase me around with hats and beach robes. All the same, I had a few serious sunburns. Every sunburn I got takes me closer to skin cancer as an adult.

My current outdoor activities usually include longish drives in a car with tinted windows, and a five-minute walk to some building. Even so, I use sunscreen. I hope you do, too.

Too hot for long sleeves?

Anyway, my early beard was composed of fine blond hairs. I think I took a couple of years to get something dark, thick, and coarse enough to be even remotely worth growing out. I was on a so-called full dose for the whole time, but I was on finasteride for the last several months of it. However, I was not as blond as you obviously are.

I always thought it was sort of a rule of thumb, that your facial hair would end up like your eyebrows or close.

so far thats been true to me as little red hair come forth into the world.

and my dad and uncles beards all seem to match their eyebrows.

I'm starting to get a beard/goatee facial hair after about nine weeks on T, but it's SUPER light blond, you can really only see it in the sunlight. I shaved it because my husband made fun of it (he apologized afterwards saying he didn't mean for me to feel like I should have shaved it off) but I shave pretty regularly because of acne on my chin right now. I'm considering just letting it grow out and seeing what happens.

I was white blond as a child, but my hair has darkened up enough that it looks brown. I have blue/grey eyes, so I doubt I'll be getting a super dark beard anyway. My brother was a darker blond than I was as a kid, and his beard is a lighter color than his hair or his eyebrows. I think it's just genetics.

I'm just going to let it ride I think, and see if it darkens up to the color of my eyebrows which is a pretty dark, but still blond color. T has been mostly kind to me except for the acne, and as I'm adjusting to the T it is getting better thankfully, so I may just stop shaving for a while.
