It seems my dilation angle is slightly down wards if I dont hold the dilator up towards my navel is this normal

also if I cough or sneeze the vagina effectively trys to shut while doing so again is this normal.

thx julie

I'm not sure about the angle - I have to work a little to get it "aimed at the navel," but it's not very difficult.

Yes, the coughing/sneezing thing is normal. :) We have the same muscles down there that cis women do, and when we cough or sneeze, those muscles contract involuntarily.

This will help you on your dilation question.

Girl, you are going to get plenty of pleasant sensations in the days to come.  I know I recommended the folded towel or small pillow under the hips technique a couple of places in here, and its wonderful to hear that someone picked them up and found they worked.

You are only looking at 2 months now, and it does get easier with more practice and also with your becoming more confident in what you are doing.  We are not as fragile as we first think and sometimes we have a bit of paranoia about our own senses that just needs time to come together.  We do have new bodies and we need a bit of time to learn how to enjoy them and feel comfortable.

My major advice is to be VERY sure you have made a bathroom call before you start to dilate because you can trigger either need "to go" at the worst possible moments.
I refuse to have a war of wits with a half armed opponent!!

Wiser now about Post Op reality!!

Yes the towel defo works I think as we learn to dilate on a firm bed its easier also we pretty numb still so its a lityle difficult to feel in there my bed is soft so was having problems but I seem to be okish now.

I try going before dilating but cant sometimes still a bit constipated   but the first one usually sorts that out
funny sensations yes queefing is one and when you fart also lol.

thanks for the tips xx

ps if you having problems relaxing try playing with yourself for 5/10 mins seems to relax things a bit down there :)

Recently from post-op here. My angle is -not- horizontal while laying flat on a bed, it's definitely downward and was specified to be so. Using a soul source dilator, it starts significantly downward and the curves to a more level as inserted. If you have seen a soul source dilator that are not straight as there is a significant bend towards the tip.

The angle sounds about right. Knees high and closer together works best for me. And that's true about the dilator being a missile if you sneeze or cough. Hang on to that sucker!

Oh, and just you wait, when nerves start reconnecting (usually when you least expect it) you'll probably find yourself putting on a good show for other people! When this started to happen to me I was in the middle of the candy isle at Costco. My vagina started sending all sorts of happy sparks and zaps through my body and all I could do was grab on to my cart and ride it out. People looked at me funny and all I could do was laugh and smile a sh*t-eating grin. Kind of a Jenny McCarthy moment, really. :D

The shocks can be quite painful sometimes more so as more nerves reconnect and you get feeling back and pain killers do nothing for them enjoy the ride lol.

Reading this thread has me very very excited for what is to come

I am waiting on letter #2 and scheduling with Brassard by Thursday :) Looks like it's going to be September!!!

I found my angle to be a bit odd as well... I have a pronounced frenulum and am working with the curved soul source dilator. So it has to go more like straight down first to get the "bend" in, then angled to get in the right position and then I work it up all the way into position. I wondered why they had the nubs on the end at first then realized they are for grip; the thing wants to twist and turn as it is going in.  It was definitely an experience the first time trying to figure out how to get the dilator in!

Even though my SRS is still a little ways off (December 2015) Jennygirl I feel the same way. Reading this thread has made me very excited. And of course I'm even more excited for you Jennygirl! Best wishes on getting your letter! If your anything like me I know you've waited a long time for this last piece of the puzzle to make you whole both inside and out.

Best wishes to you always! :icon_bunch:

Yes I am extremely excited and thanks for the happy wishes!

Seems like my gender therapist is having troubles getting her letter to Brassard. Arrrgh I just want to schedule! Now the dates are as far back as November. Either way I think it will time out well with going home for Thanksgiving / Chistmas. My mom wants to take care of me during the recovery period :D

That's great your Mom is so supportive. I don't know who's going to help me during my recovery period. I think my SO and I are done after our last argument which was her fault. But if I lose her I have no one.

Again I'm veeeeery happy for you Jennygirl!

3-ish days postop here at Brassard's clinic. I can say for sure some stuff's starting to reconnect, and it does feel quite ... Arresting ... When it does. I'm guessing there'll be more down the road - but even what I did have was quite the jolt. That and the ice pack can be quite fun to move, on occasion.
- happy camper
Don't lose who you are along the path to who you want to be.
