Well I'm pretty well a brand new member - I just signed up yesterday   ;D   so hi to anybody who missed my intro!!  :icon_wave:

Well I finally went to the doctor today and spilled it all, it wasn't the one I usually see, but he was nice and very professional which was a huge relief. I was absolutely scared stiff but I felt so great afterwards!! I am now awaiting for my appointment at a "mental health practitioner" to eventually (hopefully) get clearance for HRT. I'm considering a short period of self medication to help things along if need be (yes I will be very careful) as the wheels of our public health system in NZ can sometimes turn rather slowly, its a great system in most ways though.
Well I'm still on a high this evening, I feel as beautiful fresh breeze has blown through me..

Well it's only a start... small steps... (reminds me of one of my favourite movies; Contact - so beautiful, it always makes me cry.)

Well thank you all, reading peoples experiences on this site definitely helped me going through with my first step today  :)

Welcome to the site :)

Hope it helps and hope you have a fantastic journey.

I'm in the UK.

I first went to my Doctor in October 2014. Since that point I've been referred on to a psychiatrist and a few weeks ago got referred onto the gender identity clinic.

The GIC has a waiting list of 12 months for first appointment and then I'd be waiting another few months for my hormones, so say 2 years minimum from when I started.

I'm currently 7 and a half months hrt, I'm a different person now.

Mod edit: please do not discuss self-medding, breaks the Terms of Service.
"What do you fear, lady?" he asked.
"A cage," she said. "To stay behind bars until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is gone beyond recall or desire."

Thanks for the support Anna, wow you look amazing!! And only 7 and half months, incredible!!  ;D  I, just like you I'm sure, just can't waste any more years in this state of dysphoria.

ps, sorry mods, you will not hear a peep out of me again about this:

Welcome lemon_ice!!!

I've been on hrt for about 2 years now and the changes are still happening. A lot of the changes happened very gradually like breast growth. Patience is key when you start hrt, lol that sort of rhymes  ;D

Nice how you redact a positive comment for self medding but leave the negative.  I'm done with this place.

We weren't discussing dosages or even which medication

Thanks lady oracle, I'm definitely not expecting anything overnight, and I'm not so worried about breasts or breast size really, I'm fairly slender and like be active so a b cup would be plenty for me lol , it's more just the general softening of things and the hormone related temperament changers that I'm looking forward to  :)

Its great to hear things are going well for you!! Even two years doesn't seem so long to me :) well done!

And please don't leave Anna, you sound like a really cool chick, I think we could have a lot to share given we are working with two very similar systems compared to our north American sisters. I also love Tolkien's works, especially the Silmarillion, I'm an atheist but if had to believe in a creation story, I would definitely pick that one!! So beautiful and tragic..
