Just thought I'd drop in quickly to say that I went for a bloodtest to determine if I have 47, XXY.  I wasn't so sure I was covered by my insurance, and I had doubts when I was waiting.  Much to my surprise when I was called upfront, the lady took down my info and ask that I take a seat in the back for my bloodwork to be done.

As I was waiting, the lady who helped me had trouble reading the doctor's request, and asked for help from her co-worker, lol.  The second co-worker read everything outloud and was stumped on one word.  I quickly said, "It's for Kleinfelter's Syndrome, 47, XXY".  The lady said "Oh ok, yup just wanted to make sure" giving a big warm smile after.

There were 3 vials to be withdrawn.  I never look at the vials, but after the first one was finished I looked for some reason because the lady was shaking it for some reason.  I started to feel queasy and my face changed.  After the last vial she asked if I was ok.  I told her I'm squemish with blood and we both laughed.

Overall it went very well today and I am pleased.  I've had a lot of bloodwork in the past, but I'm actually anxious to get the results in a few days.  I will update when I can, thanks for reading.

My test took about two weeks to get back since it was a karyotype test. I found I am 47XXY as well. I hope it doesn't take that long for yours because I know you want to know sooner. Are you hoping it is positive or not? It sure explained a lot to me personally.

Wow, 2 weeks? that is a long time!  I'm not really sure how long it takes around here (Canada), but yup, you are right I want to know, lol.  I'm hoping to get a positive result, and I am trying to be being patient.  These last few months have been about my journey of confronting and rediscovering myself.  And yes, I'm waiting for that 'Ah-ha!' moment, where I can start to connect the dots sort of thing

I learned a LOT there about all intersex conditions.

I have not been there yet, I will check it out.  Thanks for your help Jessica. 

ISNA is also a pretty amazing cover all site. Depending on condition, there are various other groups to handle the effects of each condition, both socially, and medically.

Does insurance cover karyotype testing and is it done through a PCP or do I need to go to endo for it?

Some insurances cover it, others do not. Most pcp's will send you to an endo who may order one, or send you to a geneticist.

Also- karotyping does not always rule out intersexuality, some conditions can cause disambiguation or development issues, and be a normal karotype. 

Usually - if the doctor sees something abnormal they will rule this out via testing, but without signs some get iffy on testing.

Also, some endos are more specialized in certain conditions, then others.

I have some characteristics that make me suspect an intersex condition. I need to establish myself with a PCP in Anchorage anyway so time to start looking for one that has some experience with GID and/or intersexed folks.
