Hey everyone! So, I started HRT almost a year ago. It certainly doesn't feel like it has been that long. Other than hormones, I have done nothing to move transitioning along. I think part of it is out of fear; I'm afraid to start doing visible things that other people would notice. I think another part is due to money. I'd like to buy some make up and clothes, but with student loans, rent, and other bills, funds are limited. I think the last thing...and possibly the biggest thing...is that I just see a man when I look in the mirror. I'm terrified that even with some make up and clothes, I'll just be looking at a man with no hint of femininity. It's making me wonder if I should just give up on it...

To those of you who have made the jump, how did you get yourself to do it? Do you have any suggestions?

Go ahead and buy make up, piece meal if tha is the only way you can. Practice at home and get more comfortable with the application and look in private before worrying about presenting to the world. I think that way, when you do show yourself to the world, you will feel more confident in how you look and that can make a big difference.

As to other things, try small changes like a scarf or bracelet. A feminine watch, women's jeans etc.

Just do it. Even if you feel or do get humiliated.
It can be a liberating experience to free yourself
Of the chains that bind you from worrying what others
Think. Revlon color stay foundation is awesone get one matched
And a real techniques foundation brush is cheap. Brown and red eyeliner
And 4 color brown eyeshadow and basic red lipstick. The foundarion
Brush makes it easy. Eyes the hardest to learn

When it comes to passing, it's about 20% how you look and 80% confidence in yourself and your presentation. As others have said you can buy your makeup a little at a time and practice at home until your confident enough to go out in public. For the length of time you've been on hormones I'm assuming you do have breast development that isn't easily hidden. When you can afford to go out and get a few tops that fit you in female sizes. These will make your breasts more visible. Thrift stores are a good place to start. You can sometimes find some pretty nice outfits there. One of my best tops came from Goodwill.

Best wishes
