So my mom wanted to know specifically why I preferred wearing binders instead of bras.  I tried to make something up to avoid telling her that I'm ftm, but I'm not good at lying.  I told her the truth, but the problem is that I wasn't ready to come out to them.    I was planning on coming out after top surgery.  And then my dad joined in and said that binding can cause cancer.  This is the 2nd time one of my binders will be confiscated.  I understand that they're concerned with my health, but as far as I know, binding doesn't cause cancer!  Fortunately, they were more accepting than I expected, and they had already "suspected" that something was up.  But I'm really mad at myself because I told them my secret.

That sounds on the same logic as getting hit hard enough with ball, tennis racquet or like object can cause cancer.  If that is the case women sports authorities could be in more trouble then the concussion debate raging contact sports.

The good news is if they are more accepting then you first thought, they should be more reasonable to FACTS.  Suggestion take this to your doctor.  If (I think he would I'm only guessing here) he tells you no, ask for the relevant information so you can show your parents.  Try to have a calm logical unemotional conversation with them. They are your parents they are concerned for you.

If you can prove to them their case is old with current facts you should be clear, hope this helps.

Yes. Everything causes cancer. Sunlight, sand, binders, food, air, life. Anything you will ever encounter you can somehow obscurely relate indirectly to cancer.

If you think about it, wrapping breast tissue up tightly could cause damage, which to an uninformed person seems like something that might cause cancer. I don't imagine you need to worry about it.

Anyway, I understand, I'm only half-out to my mom and she's panicking somehow thinking I'm starving myself to make my breasts more visible. The logic makes no sense at all, and it's not anything like me. In short, she's just being paranoid. I had expected better of her. She was very accepting when I first told her, then later got un-accepting. O.o

I feel sorry you are feeling down. It does sound like they are somewhat accepting. Now is a great time to get them information. Is there any way you can see a Gender therapist?
