I can afford about $200 a week max honestly, and I was not planning on coming to the bay area so soon, but i found myself stuck in las vegas and my friends and family helped me get to san jose, where I am staying at my cousins house. I do have monthly income, and can pay with help for a place now. I don't mind a room share or a sublet, but prefer a single room. I saw a few ads for $170+ per week and those are ok but in questionable areas. Any help or ideas for me please?

Maybe you should look into the transgender housing network website as they might have some people in the bay area also looking for roomates.

In SF it is going to be tricky to find a single room for that much. You will most likely need to find a shared flat apt with several other people. There is a place called The Ansonia Hotel, which is now called USA Hostels on Post street. I used to party at this place and it was pretty safe. I had friends that lived there for a long time. Like 3-6 months. You will probably have a roommate and it's tiny but it's better than the street. I think he had to help with dinner or something.

There are a couple other hostels in the area that are pretty safe.

The cheapest places to find housing is in the outer sunset and outer richmond. It will be hard to find anything single room for $800 a month. Get used to roommates.

If you go 20 miles north of the golden gate bridge it can be under $700 for a single room (shared house)
I was lucky and got $600 flat rate no utility bills. My previous 2 places were $690 and $670 plus internet.
