Now if only I were old enough to retire. I need a time machine so I can get it done now and then travel back.

Briana, you will have a long wait. Medicare is for seniors. Now if the rest of the US will get on the ball, we might have something.

i have medicare/medicaid through the state because of my financial situation and me being on SSI . i wouldnt have to worry about that really, but again, i dont think i will get SRS though. my bottom bits arent really the cause of my dysphoria

There is actually quite a difference between medicaid and medicare, but if you have it, good luck. I would love to see it work out for you.

I have already talked to my Therapist about this. They are going to make sure mine is approved by bleeding on the application for me. If you read it close they will try to deny on a needs basis so another reason to have a good Therapist who will word the application so it shows a definite need. I am so on track now! ;D

Gratzes. I'm jealous, can you tell? Seriously though, you deserve to have it and I'm glad a therapist is advocating your need.

I feel like a little girl on Christmas Eve waiting to see if the Barbie Castle is under the tree. Stand by now for the "I can't wait another day" topics from me!  ;D ;D ;D

Can't say I feel like that, exactly -- Barbie never did it for me... :icon_mrgreen:  But I feel sorta like the little boy in the Disney World commercial who says "I'm too excited to sleep!"

I've been one happy geezer since I heard this news! It means I'll have to wait at most three years for top surgery, instead of thinking all the time "Damn, I'll probably never be able to do this."

I am just pumped about this!

Now we need to take action to have these necessary procedures covered under the Affordable Care Act.

A number of states, WA among them, have expanded medicare to low income people who qualify for it via ACA (Obamacare).  I am on it purely because of income, my age doesn't matter.  It would be available for me if I hadn't already had SRS.

I am not sure which states expanded it but if you are curious I would start with the 17 states where you can't get evicted or fired just for being trans :)

Ellie,
That's what comes from living in a civilized country.  You could move south a couple of hundred kilometers, and help us poor fools out.  We need all the Canadians we can get.

You are confusing medicare with medicaid.

Sad that those on a limited income have to wait until age 65 to fully transition. I'm surprised the media hasn't run with this story -- about folks lining up at the senior center to board the bus to Trinidad Colorado.

Read your post I quoted, you did say Medicare.  I get the two switched all the time, but, yeah Medicaid is for seniors, but Medicare covers SRS now.
