Obama Administration Announces Executive Order Protecting LGBT Employees Of Federal Contractors

The White House is expected to announce Monday that President Obama will issue an executive order requiring that all companies who contract with the federal government must not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The order, expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, is an extension of orders previously issued by past presidents — most recently Johnson — similarly banning employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin among all contractors and subcontractors who do over $10,000 in business with the government in any one year.

The protections will reach over one million LGBT workers across the country, making it the single largest expansion of LGBT workplace protections in our country's history.

How exactly would "Federal Contractor" be defined for this. I ask because my company provides services for numerous Federal Agencies, and I know it's for sure a few more zeros than just $10,00 a year. But I don't know if it's "Contract" work per se.....

what kinds of companies contract with the federal Gov.?

I believe it would be any company that provides products or services to the government in excess of 10,000 annually.

The company I work for provides parts to the Dept. Of Defense which I believe normally exceeds 10,000 annually. Even if not; most companies doing business or wanting to do business with the gov't will need to comply or they would not be eligible for future contracts which push them beyond the 10,000 limit.
