After looking into the history of how gender and such was perceived by various societies across the world and throughout time, im not so sure im happy using the term gender and the other terms associated with it. The reason why is that gender, male, female, are all creations rooting back to around the medieval period and implemented across the colonial period. A creation of a power structure, the white male, and the females, Actively seeking to eliminate any idea of anything outside of this.
The problem is all continents across the world has had cultures that have recognized multiple variances, even had high respect. Before the colonizers arrived to the Americas, the indigenous people did not have any gender structures established. The indigenous people of the Americas accepted biological polymorphism.
While within the trans community it is all being redefined on top of the gender basis to include the idea that there is a whole spectrum of possibilities, do we really want to redefine terms that root back to the oppressors that caused over a thousand years of oppression and suffering for everyone that didnt fit the male/female stereotypes, and of course the oppression women went through not being allowed to be independent women etc.
Wouldnt it be better to work with scientists, historians and politicians to eventually break open the truth about what happened, and allow the global culture to heal itself from the damage caused by those acts? And to then correctly redefine our understanding with more appropriate terms with the truth of the matter in mind rather than social conditioning in mind?
I dont know about anyone else, but using words that have such origins just makes me very uncomfortable. Other minorities that suffered such oppression managed to get the truth out to the world, fought to repair their image in the world. Surely we should be doing the same as well?
This also creates a personal problem for myself, as i need to get my head around not accepting any of the widespread used terms to define myself. Also i need to come to terms with the probable fact that the world will use the terms i dont care for my whole life, and my legal documentation will always use such terms to define who i am once i am dead.
