Hello!
My therapist is on a medical leave and I am going to be seeing her intern until she gets back. I met with her for the first time today. This intern has one more year left of school and is a lovely young woman. One thing she said bothered me a tad, and considering I have the chance to be her "trans experience" prior to entering the real profession, I need your opinion here. When I told her I was trans, she phrased her question as such: "And is this a fairly new process you are going through?".
Instantly I thought - new process?? I've been on T for 3 years!!! WTF.
Do you think this is worth mentioning to her considering the circumstances of being able to kind of push her on the path to being a trans accepting therapist? I was thinking I could say something like when you are talking to a trans person, it is best to just ask when they began their transition, because stating it the way she did can cause some insecurity? I don't want to seem super particular though. I also don't want to undermine her position as she is acting as therapist, but I just want to make sure that I don't miss an opportunity to try and educate.
Thoughts?
