So I was watching the Belgium/USA game with my family, and my parents (who are extremely religious) kept making derogatory comments such as "Ask that thing if it would like anything to drink.) never talking directly to me and always referring to me as that "thing" or "the heshe" it got pretty bad when I started yelling at Dempsey for sucking as a striker and my voice fell back into my male register. About 97 minutes into the game my older sister got up and was all "Leave her alone! She's your DAUGHTER! If you can't accept her as she is you should really just shut the $@&* up!" And I was so flattered that she would stand up for me! I love ya sis!

You certainly are blessed with having a supportive older sister. My brother would probably never stand up for me if my parents said something like that; heck, he watched the Netherlands vs Mexico game with my parents in the bedroom while I watched the game alone in the living room.

I feels for you! It's tough being trans* in this world. We face people who even when they try to be nice just don't understand. And we all need people who will stand up for us if we won't do it ourselves (and I thought my sister would've been with my parents actually) and it's important to stay positive!

You're right, the key is to stay positive. :)
